This generator is the largest unit that Troy_Bilt makes at this time and is sold by Lowe's. It is rated at 7550 continuous watts and 13500 surge watts. The engine is a 16 HP B&S OHV Vanguard with electric start. The unit comes with a trickle charger that can be left plugged into a utility outlet to keep the battery charged until the generator needs to be started. This must be unplugged before starting the unit. The generator has a built in 10 amp 12 volt jack and comes with a pair of battery cables and clips that can be used to charge any rechargeable 12 volt dc battery.
The generator has 4 120 volt outlets and 1 240 30 amp outlet. Also included is a 25 foot adapter cord with 4 more outlets.
The unit has a 7 gallon fuel tank with a fuel gage. Half load run time is rated at 8 hours.
I set up my house with a dedicated 100 amp circuit box that is totally isolated from the utility power when operating on generator power. This box is mounted next to the main 200 amp service. I have the freezer, refrigerator, all the lights, microwave, tv, dvd player, satellite tv receiver, satellite Internet receiver and transmitter, computer, various outlets through out the house and a small 220 volt 3800 watt heat pump on this box. The 100 amp box is fed from the 200 amp utility service during normal operation. When a power outage occurs the the 100 amp service is manually disconnected from the main breaker box and hooked up to the generator line. I have 2 # 10 underground cables with ground running parallel, that is 6 #10 wires running side by side for the 150 ft run to the generator to minimize the current and voltage drop. This is wired as 220 volts. The generator is located in our well pump house and is manually connected to the 220 volt well pump during power outages. This generator can and will pull all of this at once. When the well pump starts with most the above mentioned items running the engine on the generator keeps it's rpm up well. The voltage does not fall below 113 volts at the house with these things all running.
The noise level of the generator is a bit high. A quieter muffler would make things easier on the ears.
We do not have many extended outages like the one we had this past January which prompted this purchase, but when the next one comes we will have the convenience and luxury of electricity in our household.
