Make Free Redwood Chips, Plus!
Written: May 06 '00
Pros:Does what it promises in efficient, speedy manner
Cons:Where are the safety features?
We've been using our Troy-Built Chipper/Shredder for years in our Redwood Tree abundant yard. This machine is easily used, by my husband, to clean the bushes and brambles out of the yard, so that paths are easily walked. The redwood trees need to be kept safe from branches that could get caught into the wind, break off, and fall onto the roof of the house, also.
With the Troy-Built Chipper/Shredder, he can put in up to 4 inch branches into the machine, and end up with wonderful redwood chips to be used all over the garden, the paths, and to make great mulch. The machine works quickly and efficiently for these needs.
The only problem I have with the way this machine is constructed is that there is not enough 'safety' built into it. We need to keep it under lock and key, in a shed. Actually, that is why only my husband uses it, instead of both of us. I don't like machines that can do great harm, yet, don't have really good safety features. If you were to get your arm caught up in this machine, you wouldn't have an arm.
Noise level is pretty high, but, I doubt such a machine could be made that didn't make a lot of noise. It is speedy in its duty, and definitely does what it is designed and advertised to do.
Don't let young people use this machine, is the opinion I would drive into everyone's mind.
