Pros: Throws snow far, great price, chute does not clog.
Cons: 2 Reverse gears are way too slow.
Troy-Bilt 24" 5.5 HP snowblower
I bought a Troy-Bilt 24" 5.5 HP snowblower at LOEW's for $599.00 assembled. It has an electric start which I tried once to make sure it wored, but I pull start it and it starts the first try each time.
I've used it several times and overall I am very happy with it. One of the storms that I used it in was very wet and heavy snow, about 8 inches worth, and it worked great. It throws the snow very far.
Anyone who owns a snowthrower is familiar with the chute getting cloggged in wet snow but I was very surprised and impressed with this snowblower because the chute rarely gets clogged. Mine only got clogged once so far and it was in a very slushy area at the bottom of the driveway. Also, there is a plastic tool affixed to the snowthrower to unclog the chute and it worked great.
I would say the only thing I do not like about the snowthrower is that the 2 reverse gears are VERY slow, but I will say that the snowblower itself is quite light so I just pull it back myself, and I don't even bother putting it into reverse.....but an elderly person or someone who does not have much strnght may not like it, but then again its probaly safer that the reverse is so slow because then you don't have to worry about getting run over by it. In fact, it is probaly made this way on purpose for this very reason.
