We were tired of playing around with used garden tractors that I got at yard sales , so last year I decided on the Troy-Bilt, mostly 'cause my wife sat on one and said she wanted it!! (I led her to the dealer after I researched all my options)
Recommend this product?
She had sat on the 16 horse model GTX16 and said "too small", then she sat on the GTX 20 and said "too big".
finally came the GTX 18 and she said "this one is just right!! Good for me cause the 20 horse was a lot more money!! hahaha
Seriously, the 18 horse version is just right for mowing medium to large size yards that the grass is too tall, say a foot or so-- I tried it and it didn't even slow down the 48 inch 3 blade deck!! The Tractor comes with A TWIN CYLINDER Kohler(read superior) engine that makes great power and is very quiet too. The deck is hydraulic, as well as the steering, hey power steering? COOL!!!! The cutting height is easily adjusted, but really not needed, just set it low and cut whatever comes along! The cut is good too- except in wet grass it leaves little piles along it's path, ooh well, but in dry weather the cut is excellent-- no bagger needed!!
The tractor also has headlights and side lights built into the rear fenders that make it cool to mow at night with!! The hydrostatic drive is used by way of a foot pedal, push forward, and go ahead, push backwards and go back, RIGHT NOW-- you have to get used to it or you'll wear out the tires it's that powerful and easy. By the way, the rear end looks like it came out of a Sherman Tank or something.....
My favorite thing is the cruise control-- just set and forget!! If you hit the brake it goes off just like the family econobox, eh?
The only thing I don't like about the Troy-Bilt is that it's so COOL, my wife will NOT let me use it-- she wants to have all the fun........really!!
