TrueNorth Pistachio Crisps – A delicious new way to eat nuts!
Written: Jan 11, 2009
Rated a Very Helpful Review by the Epinions community
Pros:Airy, no preservatives, no artificial colors or flavors, great taste.
Cons:High calories, as almost any snack is that tastes good!
The Bottom Line: Light, airy, crispy pistachio crackers (chips)...very good on flavor and taste!
I ventured out into new territory the other day. Costco had a coupon for these TrueNorth Pistachio Crisps and you were able to have quite a bit of savings off the shelf, listed price. I pondered purchasing these, looked over the bag, circled around another aisle or two thinking about it and stopped in front of the display one more time. Someone walked up, asked if I had tried these. I said no and she said that I really should because they are awesome and she grabbed 2 or 3 bags and walked away. So, I thought, what the heck, let me give them a shot.
The Product
These chips are a little larger than a quarter, but smaller than a half dollar coin. The nice thing about these chips is that the chips are baked “to an airy perfection” per the package. They are not fried in oil! They claim on the package that these are “Our TrueNorth ™ is a simple one: to bring inspiration to natural snacking”. These are a nice mix of a crackery-chip kind of taste.
One thing I enjoy is the light airy texture of the chips. You can see little green bits of pistachios in the chips and they are quite prevalent, not hiding in the slightest. They state these chips are 100% natural, no preservative and not artificially flavored or colored. They actually do have a good source of protein too.
The flavor was decent. If you enjoy pistachios, you know that the pistachios tend to have a salty flavor. These chips did as well. The pistachios crisps were very crispy too, they were not soft or terrible to chew on even after the bag had been open for a while. They looked kind of like a wheat cracker in that you could kind of see the light and darker wheat grains in the crackers or crisps.
The Ingredients
These ingredients were taken off of the package:
Pistachios, wheat flour, corn starch, wheat gluten, brown sugar, expeller pressed sunflower oil, whey protein isolate, tapioca starch, sea salt, monocalcium phosphate, sodium bicarbonate, and soy lecithin.
Contains: pistachios, milk, soy and wheat ingredients
Allergen information: This product is made on equipment that also makes products containing peanuts and other tree nuts.
Nutritional Facts
This information is taken from the package as well and is based upon a standard 2,000 calorie diet and is based upon a single serving. The single serving is roughly 12 crisps and the package contains about 16 servings!

Overall Impressions
My husband stated that he liked them but felt (even with the coupon) that these were overpriced crackers or crisps. But, with the more natural approach, that probably is a bit warranted. I mean, look at Kashi items. They are more natural, no preservatives, etc., but you do pay a bit more for it. These chips are better for you. And, honestly, I cannot recall ever seeing anything but pudding being made from pistachios.
I enjoyed the flavor. The salty flavor of the pistachio and the sea salt was something that piqued my taste buds curiosity and it would get a little overwhelming after a number of chips. But, I am that way with any type of chips. I enjoyed the crunch. The chips were airy yet very solid with what was in them. I did not feel like I was eating a rice cake with nothing but air and dried out flavor. These were very good.
Would we buy them again, my hubby says for the right price. I think for an occasional treat for something salty that isn’t as bad as a bag of chips, I will gladly pick up this item the next time I am at Costco.
