| bmcnichol's Full Review: True-To-Life New Born Baby |
I am a mother of two boys. Two boys that love to play in the dirt, play sports, ride bikes and other “boy” things. So I never thought I would be writing an epinion on a baby doll. When I was pregnant with my youngest, my then eight-year-old asked for a baby that he could “practice” with before his baby brother was born. What a great idea. Off I went on a search for a newborn baby doll. I came across the True-to-Life Newborn Baby. One look and I was hooked. Our new baby came home with me that day.
The True-to-Life Newborn Baby comes in a pink or blue outfit. I knew I was having a boy, so I purchased the baby with a blue outfit. The outfit is a blue one-piece sleeper with white trim around the bottom. The arms of the outfit are white with white snaps that are actually attached by Velcro. There are three blocks on the sleeper with A, B and C on them. Attached to the sleeper by a ribbon is a blue pacifier. Baby also has a matching blue hat with white trim. The Newborn Baby has a diaper that can be removed and replaced. The outfit also can be removed and washed and dried.
The True-to-Life Newborn Baby weighs about five pounds and measures 19 inches long. OK so his “real” baby brother weighed more then that but the length was almost right. It gave my son the opportunity to “practice” holding and caring for an infant.
The hands and feet on the Newborn Baby are very realistic looking. The mouth is slightly opened so that the pacifier or thumb fits in it. The baby’s arms and legs are made of a soft plastic and the body is filled with a foam/bean bag like material.
The True-to-Life Newborn Baby is recommended for children three to seven. Because of the weight and length of this baby, I don’t think a younger child could handle it. I don’t think a three-year-old should have any problems.
There are a few things this Newborn doesn’t do that our new baby did, like cry, eat, and poop but it did help my son learn how to hold a newborn. For two weeks my son played, feed, read to, put his baby to sleep, changed his clothes and diapers and just loved and nurtured his “baby brother”. But after two weeks, my son got bored with his new “toy” and it got pushed to the side. It was fun while it lasted and he was ready for the real thing, or so he thought!
One complaint I have with the Newborn Baby is that the pacifier is a bit hard to get into the baby’s mouth. I didn’t want my son to think that he had to “smack” the pacifier to get it into his baby brother’s mouth.
The True-to-Life Newborn Baby only comes with one outfit and diaper. Newborn clothes and diapers do fit on him for more realistic play.
Our True-to-Life Newborn Baby has since been “donated’ to my cousin’s daughters. After two years, they still play with him (it’s the baby brother they never had!) and he is still holding up. Of course, they treat him like a real baby and take care of him, so there is not much rough play.
Even though my son only played with this doll for two weeks, I still think it was a great purchase. The doll is realistic looking and gave my son the confidence he needed when it came to handling his new brother.
If you are in the market for a new baby doll for your three-year-old or older child or for a “learning” device for an older child who is “expecting” a new brother or sister, I would highly recommend the True-to-Life Newborn Baby. It’s realistic and fun to play with. It‘s a Boy!
