fuche_bu's Full Review: Tryme Yucatan Sunshine Habanero Pepper Sauce
This is another one of those hot sauces that I discovered simply by trying something new. I was in a supermarket and needed to pick up some hot sauce. I like to keep a stash in the fridge at work. Lunch is a lot better when you're packing heat.
Tryme Yucatan Sunshine Habanero Pepper Sauce is one that I found on the shelf. I had no advance knowledge of the sauce. I just figured that it would be cool to try a new sauce. It was less expensive than Tabasco. I have already tried all the Tabasco sauces anyhow. I went to the Supermarket to pick up my lunch. I was having chicken tenders and French Fries. Habanero sauce is a good thing to have at hand.
The sauce is a bit lighter in color than many other habanero sauces. Some have a kind of fire red thing going on. This one looked a bit on the yellowish side. I could see bits of pepper in the sauce so that raised my hopes. I also found the sauce to be a bit thinner than many of my favorite habanero sauces.
I like to pour some in a small cup and dip my tenders and fries. I found that it accented the chicken really well. Dipping fries in hot sauce may seem unusual but it's something I've always liked doing. I never felt the need to limit myself to ketchup. Yucatan Sunshine is not one of the better sauces to use for fries. I do like thicker sauces when I'm dipping my fries.
The sauce had a nice burn although it's not going to set your tongue on fire. There will be no eyes welling up and frantic reaches for bread to mat down the fire. It simply warms the tongue up. This is a bit of a disappointment for me. I want that burn to get going. I want my mouth burning until my brain has to release some endorphins. There was no endorphin rush coming with this sauce.
There is no indication on the label of the Scoville rating for this sauce. Were I to guess, I would say around 2000 or so. Of course, we should remember that the Scoville system is an archaic system. It is hard to really rate heat. My guess could be off. It is not as hot as I would like but it did have a pleasant flavor. It blended well with the chicken tenders. I've also used it on burgers. It will add some zip to a Swiss mushroom burger.
Yucatan Sunshine has a lot of typical statistics for a hot sauce. There are no calories and no fat. This is guilt free fun. You can add these sauces to anything without worry. As long as your stomach can handle the fire, you will be okay. With this sauce, you won't even have to worry about burning a hole in your stomach. It is only moderately hot.
I am going to recommend this one for those who want some flavor and spice without the fire. I know a lot of people who are planning on still having stomachs when they reach old age. They will appreciate a milder habanero pepper sauce. Yucatan Sunshine will likely hit the spot for them. This one may not impress the true hot sauce freak. It does serve as a good standby sauce.
