| galtwish's Full Review: Tsingtao Brewing Co Pale Lager |
Tsingtao beer was first introduced to my palate at Kirin, an oddly-named Chinese restaurant in Berkeley, CA. Great eatery with amazing prices (i.e. cheap for all your got), and not a bad little beer. With a reasonable price for a beer in a restaurant ($1.75), Tsingtao is a good beer for Chinese food. I had the chance to try it again last week, and it didn't fail to keep it's place in my beer canon. It has a light character with plenty of hops to cleanse your palate in between bites of your (usually) varied meal. This is a great beer for those 6 course meals with lots of sweet sauces and various meats. I think it goes best with sizzling rice soup, but any appetizer is especially pleasing with a light, agile taste that fits in with a variety of seasonings.
While it may sound a bit watery, I assure it is as close to watery as you can get without spoiling a beer. I feel that this is an excellent beer for the intended cuisine because you generally eat so much in a full meal at a Chinese restaurant. This beer helps clear the way for the next taste, while helping to settle your stomach so you can enjoy the dining experience all the way through to the end. But you will want another beer after you finish Tsingtao, or at least, I will. Even if you're the one drinking it.
