Pros: clear polymer gel acts as a shock absorber, durable, easy to use, comfortable
Cons: won't solve all foot problems
Owww, Ouch, Oooh, Yow! That sounds like me when my heels are aching. One heel especially has been more painful than it should be. What to do for immediate relief? My mother came to the rescue by recommending Tuli's Heavy Duty Heel Cups.
Description
There are a lot of varieties of Tuli Heel Cups. This particular design is made from a clear, flexible polymer gel. They are lightweight, soft to the touch, and as Tuli's calls them, "shock absorbers for the feet". This particular size is Large and designed for individuals weighing over 175 pounds. (They also come in Small, Under 80-pounds and Regular, Under 175-pounds.)
The heel cups have a waffle design on the bottom. The top of the cup where the foot rests is smooth. These heel cups are designed for high-impact activities.
The box says that "Tuli's Instantly Relieves": Plantar Fascitis and heel pain, painful legs and knees, arthritic joints and shin splints, painful nagging backaches, painful neckaches, painful feet and legs due to overweight and/or pregnancy and sore, tired, burning, aching feet.
My Experiences
My mother has worn Tuli's heel cups for years. She has had Planter Warts and other foot problems. So when I developed a sore heel, she immediately pulled out a pair for me to try. I found them so helpful at easing my heel pain that I purchased a second pair.
The heel cups come packaged in sets, one for each foot. There is nothing to assemble. Just insert a heel cup into a shoe, and snug the cup against the back of the shoe. I find that I need to anchor either side of the heel cup with my fingers in order to slide my foot into the shoe. The soft-sided polymer gel tends to fold inward as the foot is inserted into the shoe if this isn't done.
I find these heel cups work best in casual shoes and sneakers. I tried them in pumps, but the heel cup showed above the edge of the shoe. Also, depending upon what socks I wear
I find that the polymer gel pulls the socks along my foot so that some of my socks bunch a bit in the shoe. This is easy to fix by removing the shoe, readjusting the sock, and then replacing the shoe.
One thing I like is that these heel cups are clear. I don't feel self-conscious removing my shoes in company. I have seen some heel cups that are in colors, and I much prefer the camouflage effect of these clear gel Tuli's heel cups.
So have these heel cups solved my foot discomfort? Yes and no. I definitely notice a huge difference in my comfort level while wearing these heel cups. My feet are happier. Am I pain free? Sometimes. Days can go by without my feeling any foot pain. Then the pain is there again, but not nearly as bad if I wear shoes with the heel cups.
Purchasing
I recommend comparison shopping when buying Tuli's heel cups. I have seen huge price differences. For instance, Footsmart.com sells these heel cups for $19.99 a pair. A few months ago, I purchased the same style heel cups from Amazon.com for $11.95 a pair.
Summary
Tuli's Heavy Duty Heel Cups have definitely eased my foot pain. I'm not saying these heel cups will heal foot problems that require a doctor's care, but for me they are doing a great job. As I need them, I will purchase more.
