I've popped Tums occasionally all of my life for minor stomach upset. About a year and a half ago, I changed to a much higher pressure job. I now support two factories and there are times when I am primarily responsible for getting a factory working again. I have found that my stomach is more upset than it used to be due to stress. Keeping a bottle of Tums E-X Extra Strength Antacid/Calcium Supplements helps me get through some days comfortably.
Nutrition
The Active ingredient in Tums E-X is 750 mg of calcium carbonate. The rest of the ingredients are sucrose, corn starch, talc, mineral oil, natural and artificial flavors, sodium polyphosphate, red 40 lake, yellow 6 lake, and yellow 5 (tartrazine) lake. I'm currently working my way through a bottle of Tropical Fruit Assorted Fruit, but it comes in other flavors including Assorted Fruit and Peppermint. I prefer the taste of the fruit flavors, but I wish they were a little less sweet.
Each two tablet serving 10 calories from sugar, 5 mg of sodium, and 600 mg of Calcium (60% of the recommended daily allowance). Tums is highly recommended as a Calcium supplement. High calcium diets (1200-1600 mg per day) may help avoid Osteoporosis, minimize pre-menstrual symptoms and help with weight loss.
Relief
The directions are to take two to four tablets for relief of acid indigestion or heartburn which may be repeated hourly. However, don't take more than 10 tablets in 24 hours and do not use the maximum dosage for more than two weeks. I usually start with one tablet, which often does the trick for me, then add more as needed. I do find that Tums E-X fast acting and more effective than regular Tums, and worth paying $.037 per E-X tablet versus $.0266 per regular Tums tablet.
