| kcfoxy's Full Review: Tupperware SpongeBob SquarePants??? Sandwich Keepe... |
Recently I purchased a SpongeBob SquarePants logo-ed Tupperware Sandwich Keeper Set after first purchasing a 32 tumbler on its own. Since then I've also ordered another sandwich keeper from a very well known auction site, eBay.
Tupperware SpongeBob SquarePants Sandwich Keeper Set
For those not familiar with Nickelodeon's most famous resident of Bikini Bottom, he's yellow, square, a sponge, porous and a very funny fry cook whipping up Krabby Patties at the popular Krusty Krab diner.
Circa 2004, dozens and dozens of SpongeBob SquarePants items began flooding the consumer market, from Avon Lip Gloss to Tupperware luncheon items to well, men's boxer shorts. Yes, SpongeBob, his goofy sidekick Patrick, (a starfish who's vocal talents come from a tall, blond and Nordic sidekick on the TV series Coach), and a few others are definite media stars.
Needing a good sized tumbler for work, (I'm on the computer and talking almost 10 hours per shift), another one for my small SUV, as well as a couple of crush proof and leak resistant containers for work, I first gave Tupperware a try.
The Sunlight Yellow containers and goofy and friendly visage of SpongeBob greeted me when I searched for "lunch" and "sandwich" keepers. The company sells 1 32 ounce tumbler with blue-green seal and 1 sandwich keeper per set, retailing for $12.95.
As mentioned, I've gone on to purchase a separate tumbler, (they come with a couple of different SpongeBob faces-I've got one grinning and one scowling for some reason), and separate sandwich container-these are certainly useful enough to warrant more than 1 of each!
The sandwich keeper measures about 5" x 5" in a gently rounded square, and the 2" depth is great for a generous sandwich or cheeseburger with all the fixin's. It fits standard loaf slices of bread, so no Sheepherder's, though my Sara Lee Honey Wheat, (slightly oversized in width), did squish in to fit.
The best features? The attached top and bottom, via a flexible plastic hinge in the back, and the overlapping top to bottom with snap latch, provides a relatively air tight seal, which also hasn't leaked thus far.
I'd draw the line at transporting soup, ice cream or the like, but with a salmon salad sandwich in one, and a small, dressed Cobb salad in the other, there were neither leaks nor smells-just unsquished goodies.
Both tumbler and sandwich keeper are a cinch to clean, and the bright yellow plastic interiors haven't stained or retained odors-though I prefer to wash them by hand rather than risk the cute designs to the top rack automatic dishwasher they are rated for.
Tupperware provides these fun containers with a Lifetime Warranty, and I think the sandwich keepers and tumblers will also get a good workout on the road during some upcoming vacation time, as well.
Final Thoughts And Recommendation
Like most people I've purchased plenty of the inexpensive, clear plastic containers for sandwiches, leftovers and what have you. Those work okay, but I'm ready to toss them after several months use. The SpongeBob items here are not rated for microwave use, but work fine in the Fridge until meal or snack time beckons.
The seals are easy to open, but stay put until that time-no leaking, messes or odors to contend with. And since some health issues have been raised with clear plastic/food use, this opaque Sandwich Keeper Set gives additional peace of mind.
5 stars, highly recommended for your own kids, or just those young at heart.
