Pros: works great, stays in place, great for towel drying hair
I was wandering around a Garden Ridge store and they had various things in the front. The Turbie Twist caught my eye. I have long hair and like to wrap my hair up in a towel for awhile to get most of the water out of it but usually the towel keeps falling off and I abandon it leaving my long wet hair taking forever to dry. The item was inexpensive, maybe around $5 at the most. They had them in white, bright pink and bright blue. I picked up a white one and was on my way.
What is a Turbie Twist
From what I understand there are other versions of this towel that are not as great so make sure you make note of the brand name turbie twist. The towel is made of soft 100% cotton material and it's not too thick or bulky. It has a shape that fits on your head and then it tapers to a point forming a little pocket to tuck extremely long hair. On the area that ends up on the back of your head there is an elastic loop to tuck the end of the towel in after you twist. It is machine washable.
How to use it
To start with I gave the turbie twist a washing because most towels absorb better after they have been washed and dried with no fabric softener. Never use fabric softener on cotton towels as it will decrease their absorbancy. After I washed my hair which is quite long(to the middle of my back) I did towel it briefly with a regular towel. Then I flipped my head down so my hair was hanging. The towel fits over the back of your head and hangs down with a place for your hair to fit in. If you have extremely long hair there is a space to tuck your hair into a sort of pocket area at the end. My hair was long enought that it did not go all the way to the end. Tuck your hair in and then twist and tuck the end of the towel into the elastic loop on the back of the head. That is all you need to do.
How well it worked for me
The Turbie Twist worked great. I was able to leave it on to absorb all but the last bit of water from my hair leaving it evenly damp so if you wanted to blow dry it it would still be wet enough to style your hair but dry enough that it would only take a few minutes. I tend to air dry my hair so after I leave it on for awhile I take it off right before I am ready to brush it the way I like to wear my hair. I loved the Turbie Twist so much that I went out and bought myself another one and two more for Christmas gifts for my daughter in law and daughter who both have long hair.
How it washes up
The Turbie Twist washed up great. I washed it like I do other towels in hot water and there was no damage fraying or pilling. I think this thing will last for quite some time. I have been using mine for about 3 or 4 months.
How well other's liked it
My daughter called me the other day and told me she was in love with the Turbie Twist. It was funny because when she opened it on Christmas she had that look on her face like "why did you get me this?" But now she is glad I did. I have not heard back yet from my daughter in law.
