Pros: Light, keeps you trail legal
Cons: The cracking problem mentioned, which may not be the silencer's fault at all.
The Bottom Line: a great addition to save some weight and maybe gain a little power boost.

| adam728's Full Review: Turbine Core II Silencer |
I ride a 2003 KDX 220 and wanted to ditch the 300 pound trash can the factory calls a silencer. I was also looking to stay woods legal, as this bike sees more trails and roads (street legal conversion) than closed course. When I was ready to order parts it seemed no one had an FMF Quiet Q in stock, to I purchased the Turbine Core II instead.
It's been a great silencer so far. It is louder than stock, but nothing is as quiet as a factory KDX exhaust. It also saved me a great deal of weight compared to the oil drum it replaced. The packing actually lasts a long time, most moderate trail riders can probably get a whole season in without messing with it. I have never had a problem with the spark arrestor clogging on me or anything.
The only issue I have with it is some minor cracking. On my model the front silencer mounting tab is welded to the inlet pipe, not the body of the silencer. At the front weld to that mount the pipe began to split, expanding almost all the way around the pipe. Now, my pipe has taken some good hits, and things may be tweaked enough to add some stress to that mount. But it's something I thought I would mention. I've never had a silencer do this before.
As for power increase, I can't really comment. I added the silencer at the same time as many other engine modifications, so I can't justify which part changed which attribute. Many riders claim the Turbine Core adds a great deal of power, others say its the same as stock but louder. Even if I didn't gain 1/10 of a hp the weight savings is worth it to me. This silencer weighs about 3.5 pounds less than a goo filled stocker. That's a lot of weight on a bike!
If you are thinking of a good upgrade for your KDX's exhaust, check this silencer out. I know lots of people think going with an all out race silencer like a Powercore is better, but don't unless all you do is closed course riding. There's really nothing to gain (except a tiny weight savings), and you are just asking for a ticket and also making dirt bikers seem irresponsible.
