Fastest Car Wax I've Used -- and my car shines!

Written: Aug 18 '07 (Updated Oct 07 '07)
Pros:simple to use, delivers quick results, Turtle Wax Hard Shell Finish
Cons:car needs to be cool to the touch for best results
The Bottom Line: Turtle Wax delivers excellent results with this Express Shine wax. Just follow a few simple rules for a great shine.

My car had not seen wax for over a year. Typical excuse ... my life is hectic, not enough time, just too much to do! Well, it’s time I protected my car investment. No more procrastination. That was when I purchased Turtle Wax Express Shine. How could I resist the spray bottle’s claim: Get a Turtle Wax finish in minutes.

Description & Ingredients

The wax comes in a 16 fluid ounce plastic spray bottle. The body of the bottle is the trademark green color that one associates with the Turtle Wax name. The spray attachment has a nozzle that twists open and closed. I have never had the bottle leak.

According to the manufacturer, this product is designed to use on traditional and “hi-tech” paint finishes.

The bottle does not have an official list of ingredients. It says, “Enriched with carnauba wax and silicone polymers.” This product is not for use on canvas or vinyl tops or glass. Also, keep wax from freezing. In case of eye contact, rinse eyes thoroughly with water for 15 minutes. The manufacturer also recommends keeping this product away from children.

Instructions for Use

The car’s finish should be cool to the touch for best wax results.

1. Wash and dry car.

2. Shake bottle well. Divide the car into sections, and wax the sections one at a time.

3. Spray wax from 6-8 inches away from car. Spray directly onto finish.

4. Use a polishing cloth to spread the wax over the car finish.

5. Immediately buff with a dry polishing cloth.

My Experiences

This wax is incredibly easy to use. I cannot believe how fast I can wax my Toyota Camry. After washing and drying the car, it takes about 20 minutes to wax it. It’s very satisfying to see water droplets bead up on the wax shine.

First I make sure the car surface is cool to the touch as recommended. I section the car into several areas: top of the car roof, hood, trunk, driver-side doors, passenger-side doors, then the front and back driver and passenger side panels (near the hood and trunk). This works well for me. I start at the top of the car roof and work my way down, finishing one section at a time.

The spray applicator is simple to use. Shake the bottle, twist open the nozzle and press the spray trigger. The wax sprays out to cover the car finish. There is a typical wax smell to the product, but nothing that is overpowering to the senses. I always use this car wax outside where there is plenty of ventilation.

Though the instructions say to use a polishing cloth, I use soft dry paper towels. Viva paper towels have a really soft, almost cloth-like feel to them. Using a circular motion (you know the movie expression “Wax on, Wax off”), I use the paper towel to spread the wax across the car’s finish. I use another dry paper towel to buff the wax.

For areas where there is raised trim attached to the car finish, such as the Toyota name on the back of the car ... I squirt a bit of wax onto the paper towel and carefully wipe around the lettering. One thing I hate about paste car wax is that it never fails to leave a pasty residue around raised areas such as the car maker’s emblem.

This Express Shine wax is wonderful. I’m always happy with the results. One thing I learned, though, is to be careful when spraying the wax around the front windshield. If some of the wax lands on the glass, the windshield wipers tend to smear it across the glass with the first swish of the wipers. This creates a mess that can be difficult at times to see through.

Purchasing

I bought this car wax at a local store for $2.99. Considering this wax will last for quite a few wax jobs, this is a terrific bargain.

Summary

I highly recommend trying Turtle Wax Express Shine. The wax is easy and quick to use, and it delivers the traditional Turtle Wax Hard Shell Finish. Anything that saves me time and delivers results is most welcome!
