| LILvoyce's Full Review: Twinings VanillaGinseng & Blackcurrant 20 Bag. |
I am a tea addict. My hope is to try every tea out their. I am just starting to get into sampling Twinings of London. The first time I have ever experienced black currant tea was on Southside Blvd in Jacksonville, Florida. This place called 'Jason's Deli' made their own personal special blend and served it sweetened over crushed ice. Oh my goodness, it was to die for! I had been looking for a good Blackcurrant tea ever since. I saw that Twinnings made a blackcurrant tea blend with ginseng and Tahitian vanilla. I knew I had to try it.
Twinings- Herbal Revive and enlivening blend with blackcurrants, ginseng, and Tahitian vanilla
Now thats a mouthful to say. Anyway.. Your getting a box of tea that contains 20 individually wrapped tea bags. Their bags are wrapped in purple paper pouches. Your getting a drawstring and green tag on each bag for your steeping convenience. Your getting a caffeine free, herbal tea, that doesn't contain any nutritional value, meaning no carbs, calories, etc. This is a great alternative for dieters.
Ingredients
Hibiscus, natural blackcurrant flavour with other natural flavours (yes, they spell it flavours and not flavors, it is an English tea), orange peel, orange leaves, blackberry leaves, lemon peel, rosehips, liquourice root, ginseng, blackcurrant pieces, vanilla pods
Steeping Time
"3-5 minutes depending on desired strength, to be enjoyed hot or cold."

My Thoughts
This tea normally runs me about $4 to $4.50 a box. I don't mind spending the extra little bit on this tea. It is well worth the unique flavor change from my regular teas.
I will start off by saying that I absolutely love this tea, with the exception of the scent. The scent is very overpowering, and smells horrible. I am not sure if it the ginseng that makes it smell this way or not. I can't really describe the scent other than to say it is very pungent, strong, and bitter smelling.
The taste is very unique. The black current gives it a zesty, almost tart flavor, that almost reminds me of a mix between a wild blueberry, and perhaps maybe a grape. Really blackcurrants have a unique taste of their own that also can't be described well.
I am not sure what the difference between Tahitian vanilla and regular vanilla, but I can tell you I don't taste any vanilla in this tea. I am really not tasting any of the ingredients other than the blackcurrents, possibly some tartness from the blackberry leaves, and then this scent from what I am guessing is the ginseng. I don't mind not tasting the other flavors and appreciate them not interfering or overpowering this tea.
This tea is a bit less tart, and milder than the one I enjoyed at Jason's deli, but it comes close. When brewing this tea to maximum strength steeping time, it will produce a medium lavender colored tea. I would not consider it to be full bodied, but more on the light side. I definitely recommend brewing for the entire 5 minutes, don't worry about the strong scent. You won't taste that.
Overall
I am giving this tea 5 stars in spite of the strange scent. It is a wonderful exotic fruity tasting, light tea, with a unique taste that will leave you wondering what exactly is in the ingredients that make this tea taste so good. It tastes wonderful hot or cold, and I do recommend using sweetener. This makes a great anytime tea.
