| Mattog's Full Review: Twinlab Creatine Fuel Cocktail |
A number of manufacturers of liquid Creatine are trying to tap into the lucrative and as yet barren endurance athlete market with their products. Running magazines are now full of ads for the new miracle liquid Creatine.
As I'm sure you are aware Creatine has up until now been marketed as a product which aides in building muscle mass especially those fast twitch muscle fibres used in explosive sports...such as hitting 500 foot home runs. To date the supplement manufacturers have not been able to make any inroads into the endurance athlete market because of the many side effects that are associated with Creatine use.
Contrary to popular opinion speed and strength are also very important in running marathons; we are not all 100lb striplings, and weight training is a part and parcel of every marathon training schedule.
Knowing this the Creatine manufacturers are trying to market liquid Creatine to endurance athletes by saying that it is different and that it does not cause water retention, dehydration, muscle cramps, or fatigue...all common side effects of the powdered stuff and all symptoms that a marathoner never wants to experience.
The bottom line is is that its all marketing smoke and mirrors. Creatine whether in the powdered form or the liquid form can and does cause some nasty side effects, the worst of which I will not even mention here.
A little dehydration or a cramp in the gym is no big deal; you just go to the drinking fountain or another machine. Dehydration or cramps while on a 20 mile run in the woods are not to be recommended.
If you are an endurance athlete and want to increase your muscle mass a little, do it the old fashioned way; eat more protein and lift heavier weights. DO NOT use this stuff.
