Durability:
Pros:Great for Halloween, nice facial detail, cool death robe!
Cons:Might be hard to find out of season.
The Bottom Line: Jeepers creepers! Ever think you'd see a skeleton this cute?
Creepers The Skeleton is one of my favorite Beanie Babies from the Halloween collection. Looking a little like the Grim Reaper, this adorable little guy was a great find for me at a local card store. Having never seen him before I fully expected him to be in the $10.00 price range but much to my surprise he was only $4.99 [plus sales tax]. He was a great addition to my small but cherished collection of Beanies and will make his debut this Halloween with the others that I have collected over the years.
What sets Creepers apart from other Beanies is the fact that he comes with a removable black body suit. Now, before someone jumps all over me, this does not come as a removable piece because there is a small stitch at the base of the neck of the skeleton that holds the suit in place. I had to remove it to see what he looked like under the suit. All I found were small hands that looked like mittens and elf shaped feet. Nothing too impressive but it satisfied my curiosity.
His face is the focal point when the hood is pulled upright, nicely accentuating the stitched mouth, large black eyes and inverted heart shaped nose. Thats right, look at him closely and his nose is in the shape of an upside down heart. How cute is that? The small scar on the right side of the head is a very nice touch that works well with the overall scheme.
The body suit / cape that covers a majority of his body is made from think black material and there is a nicely stenciled gray skeleton design on it. At first I was worried that it was going to peel away from the material but so far its held up nicely. I thought that this skeleton design would glow in the dark but after several minutes of holding him up to the light and running into the closet Im sad to say theres no reflective quality to the design.
Creepers will sit up easily and doesnt tip over unless knocked over with some force. Since his head is huge compared to his body you may notice his head start to tilt slightly but it really does take a good push to get him to fall over. He has sort plush fur that has held up nicely since I purchased him but since he is all white, with the exception of the detailing, I have kept him in a plastic display box out of direct sunlight to prevent fading of both his fur and the black robe.
He is filled with the usual Beanie Baby bean beads in the torso and leg area. The arms are not filled however it does feel like there might be some type of fabric stuffing in them. Having the filling in the torso and legs allows you to easily position Creepers and prevents him from falling all over the place.
Im not sure what the hologram on the swing tag means, but there is one on the front of Creepers tag. Its a small star inside the Beanie Baby logo [top right hand side]. I cant say that Ive ever seen this before so if you know what it means, please feel free to leave a comment.
Swing Tag Saying
In your closet I will hide
Until the door is opened wide
You may think that I'll shout "BOO!"
But I just want to play with you!
Recommendations
This would be a great gift for those that love Halloween, ghosts, skeletons or collect the seasonal Beanies. Others that may be of interest are Batty The Bat, Haunt The Bear, Radar The Bat, Spooky The Ghost and Web The Spider. These make great decorations for the Halloween season. I display mine in a large wooden basket on the dining room table and it always receives a tremendous amount of comments, compliments and the occasional raised eyebrow.
The Bottom Line
As I said, this is one of my favorite Beanie Babies. After a small snip, the body suit / robe came off nicely and was easy to take off and replace and Creepers seems no worse for wear since I did this. I would assume that hard core collector would consider this a tainted product since I cut the stitching between the robe and the Beanie but curiosity got the best of me and I had to see him in the flesh [pun fully intended].
With Halloween right around the corner, stores might finally be pulling him and his haunted little friends out of the backstock and putting them on display. I am hoping to pick up a few more this season for my ever expanding collection of Halloween related products and in all honesty can you ever have too many of these cute little skeletons hanging around?
