| LRGuis's Full Review: Tylenol Allergy Sinus |
Now I know Tylenol Allergy-Sinus does not bill itself as a cold medicine. In fact Tylenol makes so many different products, they'd much rather have me buy Tylenol Cold or some such item, but there's only so much Tylenol a person can fit in their medicine cabinet.
Basics on Tylenol Allergy-Sinus:
Available in three forms: caplets, gel caps, gel tabs
Ingredients (Active): Acetaminophen, Chlorpheniramine maleate, Pseudoephedrine HCl (the latter being where sudafed gets its name---a standard nasal decongestant)
Dosage: 2 tablets every 4-6 hours. Children under 12 should not take this product.
Uses: Nasal congestion, sinus congestion and pressure, sinus pain, headache, runny nose, sneezing, itching of the nose or throat, itchy watery eyes.
When my allergies are just beginning and I don't want to get the Clairitin out, this is the over the counter remedy I turn to. Perhaps partly because the Tylenol name is one I know and trust. Also, because this product is proven safe even when pregnant per my OB-Gyn. (Note that the Severe form of this product is not safe during pregnancy as the Pseudoephedrine HC1 has been replaced with a stronger antihistemine).
Upon the first sign of the watery eyes and sneezing that accompany my bouts of hayfever or allergy, two caplets and I have relief in about 15 minutes. I have found that for my form of allergies, I'm taking a new dose every 4 hours (so on the short end of the range Tylenol gives).
However, I have also found that this product works great for colds. That makes it a multi-use product in my house (hey, one less medicine I need in my cabinet). If you'll note the uses once again, it sounds an awful lot like your typical cold. And the pain reliever that gets rid of your sinus pain and headache, treats all over body ache just fine.
I have experienced no side effects to date. In addition, I have not found this product to cause drowsiness---if your allergies or cold are so problematic that you are looking for a product to fight the symptoms plus aid in sleeping Tylenol does offer this medication in a "night time" version.
