Please note: this is an older, lower rated review that I have revised.
I have arthritis pain in my hands and my back. (Does this mean that I really am middle aged after all?) It is not severe enough for me to go to the doctor to get a prescription pain reliever, but it is bothersome at times.
I usually use extra-strength Tylenol or Motrin for pain relief. At this particular time, I was out of these meds and the pain was really beginning to bother me -- that nagging pain was beginning to fray my nerves and make me cranky. Fortunately I had received a sample of Tylenol Arthritis in the mail that very day.
I popped open the sample package and took the two caplets inside. I went back to my typing (something for epinions, no doubt) thinking how much easier typing would be if my hands didn't ache quite so much. About forty five minutes later, I realized that I was typing much faster than usual -- because my hands didn't hurt! Thinking that Tylenol Arthritis was probably nothing than a higher than usual dose of Tylenol and that the pain would return shortly -- I continued with my typing. It wasn't until a good six hours later that I realized that the pain was still gone! Amazing.
The next time I was on the Internet, I logged on to the Tylenol website to check this stuff out. I discovered that I was correct -- this does have a higher milligram per dose of acetaminophen (650 mg per standard dose). However, there is an additional difference, which is why I was still pain free a couple of hours after dosing. The arthritis formula has a time released dose of Tylenol, which accounts for the extended relief. (Dosing is two caplets every eight hours, not to exceed six caplets in a twenty four hour period.)
The website has lots of information regarding arthritis pain. I really recommend you check it out if you suffer from this type of pain. Here is some of what it has to say about Tylenol Arthritis :
Tylenol Arthritis Pain Extended Relief offers the proven combination of strength and safety in an extended-relief form.
Up to 8 hours of pain relief
Unique patented bilayer caplet:
First layer dissolves quickly to provide prompt pain relief
Second layer is time-released to provide up to 8 hours of relief
No other over-the-counter pain reliever has been proven to work better on arthritis pain than the medicine in Tylenol Arthritis Pain. And, used as directed, Tylenol Arthritis Pain is the safest type of pain reliever you can buy.
Tylenol Arthritis Pain Extended Relief is aspirin-free and is unlikely to cause the gastric irritation often associated with
Aspirin
Naproxen sodium (the medicine in Aleve®)
Ketoprofen (the medicine in Orudis KT® and Actron®)
even Ibuprofen (the medicine in Advil®).
This is great stuff for my mild arthritis pain! I planned to buy some the next time I was out. However, when I went to my local Walgreens, I discovered that even with the $1.00 off coupon that had been sent with the sample, the price would still run more than twice what I can buy generic extra-strength acetaminophen caplets for. Guess for now at least I will stick with the less expensive stuff. However, if my pain gets worse, or I see this stuff on sale, you can better bet I will buy some. It works really well.
