It happens every Fall and Spring. It starts with the seemingly-innocent sniffle. Then it graduates to, perhaps, a little bit of "frogginess" in the voice and sinus pain or discomfort. Another avenue it may take is gurgling in the back of the throat when speaking or breathing, especially at night. If allowed to continue, it will end up as the usual sinus infection which usually leads to the high fevers (103 degrees F is typical for both of my kids).
The most "fun" we had (aside from this year's triple blast of vomiting that I believe no one escaped) was when my son was six months old and he, my then 4-yr-old, and I all got full-blown sinus infections with bronchitis and high fevers.
I was forever running to the drugstore with an idea in mind of what to get - something to dry them up. When I got there, I was inundated with the hundreds of brands and varieties. Does he/she have a cough? A fever? Need non-drowsy, or will I give it to them at bedtime? After literally spending about 45 minutes to an hour reading all the labels, comparing dosages and symptoms helped (I am TOO analytical when it comes to comparisons of ANYTHING), I usually ended up with two or three different remedies.
The bottom line? Since about 85% of my children's illnesses originates in and progresses from the sinus area, I focused on remedying that area (of course only AFTER my usual ritual of the sometimes-successful regimen of echinacea or other holistic-type concoctions like Sambucol were administered ) with a sinus-specific medicine. Tylenol sinus worked wonders.
You may be wondering "Why such a long-winded discussion of her kids' illnesses? Who cares? How is it relevant?" I'll tell you why. Living in the Northeast, there are a lot of triggering effects an allergens that cause specific types of ailments. Since we don't allow smoke of any sort into our home and painstakingly keep it as dust-free as possible, we see the pattern of the seasonal cycle and recurrence of the same types of symptoms, thus, the need to narrow-down the remedy to use.
Tylenol sinus dried up the excess fluid in the nasal cavity before it got out of control and progressed into more serious-types of illnesses and infections while easing the sinus pain. It seems to work to aid the body in taking care of itself. I doesn't add a number of other ingredients that are not necessary for the symptoms to be treated. The pseudoephedrine seems to be the most effective decongestant with the least amount of side effects for these types of symptoms - for my family anyway.
The kids did not get hyper from the medicine, but did get a little tired (which I sure prefer!) I found the "non-drowsy" formulas of anything made my children crawl out of their skin (or at least up the walls!).
I tried other brands of similar formulas which have not been as effective or had more pronounced side-effects. I've read that sometimes the inactive ingredients affect the outcome (absorption, etc.), so this formula seems to work best.
I especially prefer the liquid to tablets as it can easily be administered with the syringe-type dispenser squirting it quickly down the throat - no chance of spitting out remains.
The medicine quickly takes effect within 20 minutes and lasts a good 3 - 4 hours.
My advice is if your children have symptoms similar to those of my children, give this product a shot. I believe t has decreased the need for antibiotics for my kids.
