marytara's Full Review: UGG Australia Ugg Tasman for Toddlers
My 4 year old daughter loves shoes. So, no surprise - when I'm buying myself a pair of Ugg Tasman "slipper shoes" at the UGG Company Store located in the outlet mall nearby - she wants a pair too. Of course, it didn't help that I was buying my own from the children's section (I have a small foot and fit a kids 4). She saw them in little sizes and asked if she could have some. She needed $60 shoes like she needed a hole in the head, but I know firsthand how comfy and warm these are. Since, last winter she lived in a pair of Croc Mammoths I decided that the Uggs were definitely easier on the eye than plastic hot pink crocs lined in creme fleece that got dirty quickly. Yeah, Yeah - I am rationalizing. I spoiled her. I said yes!
The sales associate found a little pair for her in the smallest they come - size 8. The color choices for the Ugg Tasman (Little Kids/Toddler) are Black, Chestnut, Chocolate, and Indigo. I have seen a purple Tasman sold on Zappos, but this color isn't available from the Ugg Company store of UggAustralia.com so I am not sure if that is from last season or a limited offering. Had there been purple, I know she would have gotten that one. In the absence of purple, she picked the chocolate brown (I also have Tasmans in chocolate and black) - a nice neutral color. The color is a deep dark brown outer and creme colored inner with a brown sole. At the collar of the shoe there is a woven braid in browns.
When she tried it on in the store the first thing she said is, "Oooh, Comfy!". The sales associate and I chuckled because it sounded like a commercial. But, anyone who has tried on Uggs knows she is right. The inside is lined with very thick "luxurious sheepskin". The outside is "rich suede". Essentially they are slippers but they have a sole on them that allows you to wear them outdoors. Should you be getting these wet, consider weather-proofing them.
The Ugg Tasman is incredibly comfortable and a very warm shoe. If you suffer from cold feet, it is a good choice. If you just like to slip on a shoe and go, this is a good choice. For kids, who cannot tie yet and need a quick on/off shoe - this is a super choice. Because of its thick furry lining a sock is not totally necessary. My daughter prefers to wear socks with hers however. My older son (he is 8) prefers to wear his Ugg Tasmans without socks. Me (not disclosing my age), I wear them with and without socks - but I have found that some socks get pulled down into the slipper which can be annoying. The heel of the Tasman is cut low in the back - it has just the smallest amount of a low riding heel on it making it a slipper (else it would be a mule).
My daughter has been living in her Ugg Tasman shoes "that keep her feet warm and cozy" (out of the mouths of babes!). Definitely money well spent for how much use she has gotten from these and will continue to get from them. Uggs are built to take a beating and last! So, it is safe to say there will be no cold feet in my house this winter.
Important note on Ugg sizing 1) They should fit snug when you purchase them. 2) The suede will stretch out with wear. 3) I have found they run big and suggest ordering a half size down if buying online - best to try on in person.
A Sizing and Money Saving Tip: The Little Kids/Toddler sizes are in whole sizes 8, 9, 10, 11, and 12 before moving to Big Kids (13, 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 and 6). FYI a big kids 3 is a ladies 5 and upwards from there so if you take up to a ladies size 8 you can buy from "Big Kids" and get Ugg Tasman for $60 instead of the $85 for "ladies" the shoe is identical. I am a 6 or 6.5 and fit both the 4 and 5 Kids Tasman.
