Pros:An economical choice that uses reloadable cases.
Cons:Leaves a dirty residue in your gun.
The Bottom Line:
A good choice for shooters on a budget.
The Winchester USA .45 ACP 230 gr FMJ load is part of the "Winchester White Box" line of value priced ammunition.

The .45 ACP dates back to before WWI and has developed a strong cult following in the U.S. Origially developed for the military 1911 pistol, which has since been largely replaced by the 9mm Beretta, the .45 ACP round remains an extremely popular round with civilian shooters for general target shooting, competition, and self defense use.
The Winchester .45 ACP 230 gr FMJ round reproduces the origianl load for this cartridge. It uses a 230 bullet encased in a Full Metal Jacket. This load uses brass cases and standard Boxer primers. This means that fired cases can be economically reloaded by the home hobbyist reloader.
This is a "hardball" load best suited for informal target shooting and practice. It is a good choice for use in "action pistol" type competition where bullet momentum is needed to knock down steel targets. It is accurate enough for those uses, but it not suitable for events like NRA Bullseye Competition that require extremely accurate loads.
One benefit of the 230 gr FMJ load is that the bullet length, bullet shape and full-metal jacket all contribute to reliable feeding in semi-automatic pistols. This is especially important for 1911 pattern pistols as they tend to be more "finicky" in ammo selection then other designs.
A 230 gr FMJ load is also a good choice for old military surplus 1911A1 .45 ACP pistols. As the military guns were designed before modern JHP loads were available they tend to work best with loads that most closely replicate the bullet shape and weight of the original military load.
I've used the Winchester .45 Auto load in my STI Spartan 1911 pattern pistol and it has run as well in that gun as any other "hardball" load I've tried.
The only downside to this load is that, like all other economy priced ammo, it does use a less expensive propellent. This means that this load will leave more grit and residue in the pistol then a load, such as a premium defensive round, that uses a more expensive propellent.
Like all the other loads in the Winchester White Box line, this Winchester .45 ACP load is a good choice for shooters on a budget.
