US Military U.S. Military Modular Sleeping Bag System

Lets take at look at this for what it is before all else. It's a light weight sleep system that's made to keep you alive in about negative ten Fahrenheit. It's a three part system that can be put in something smaller then it's own pack for once and weights a whole lot less. This is a major "cool" part to anyone who's had the joy of being stuck with the older bags.   The key part of all  this however  is "alive" not "warm". We'll get in to that later, but let me talk about the good parts first.
    As I said, this weights a whole lot less then the older bags. The days of heavy canvas and bulk insolation are gone. This saves a ton of wight for everyone and most of all pack space. This sleep system is also made from gortex, so the water resitance is amazing.
     The downsides of this is that it works in layers. This is why I say it will keep you alive, not warm. Even with all three layers of the bag put together you're not going to be spending much time in anything blow freezing. The trick to this is that you're ment to sleep with your whole uniform on while inside the bag. This uses the cold weather gear you're issued to keep most of the heat near your body. So if you sleep in nothing, you're going to have a really cold night. Even then if it's very cold, expect to be spooning with your buddy to stay warm. Yet lets all be honest with anything military, it's just made to work. Your creature comforts are the last thing they care about and we all know it.
