| dragon1's Full Review: Ultra Max (ULT31793) Card Reader |
I have a digital camera that my son gave me. You can load the pictures taken by using a USB cable. But it seems everytime I go to do so the batteries have been drained. What I needed was a media reader. I also needed a new floppy drive. I remembered seeing a floppy drive with media reader included so I went hunting for it on TigerDirect. I found it and what follows is what I found.
Interface from the Ultra Products website
- Floppy: Standard Floppy Drive Interface
- Reader: USB 2.0 Interface
Dimensions: 101.6x25.4x155 mm
Weight: 342g
Supports
Floppy Diskettes, SmartMedia, SecureDigital,
MultiMedia Cards, MicroDrive, Compact Flash,
Memory Stick.
System Requirements
USB Interface Connection
Floppy Interface Connection
4-Pin Power Supply Connection
Windows 98/SE/ME/2000/XP
64MB DRAM (or more)
What's in the box
1 floppy drive/media reader
2 Registration card
3 Manual
4 Driver CD
Installing is easy. Just install as you would any floppy drive. With the new motherboards, most come with on board connections for USB for say a front panel USB. Usually 2 of them, which all 3 of my current computers have. They will only go in the connections - one way. It is rectangular with 9 pins-be careful putting this connection in.
Since I'm only running Windows Me and Windows XP Pro, I know the drivers are already available by just plugging in and drivers are automatically installed. You probably need the driver cd for Windows 98/SE as I don't think media readers were available till after they had been out for a while.
Since this media reader can read all the most common digital cards, I should be able to use this with any digital camera that I may buy in the future. Plus most media readers will fill a 5 1/4 drive bay but I like the fact that with this it fills a 3 1/2 inch bay so it makes sense to me to use this as I want all my 5 1/4 free to add other things.
This comes with a 1 year warranty but if you register it,either by mail or on the internet, they then change this to a 3year warranty.
Now for you non-technical people that read my reviews-I'm trying to do a review that you can understand. There will be some things I will put in for more technacally inclined. But if there is anything you do not understand or you have a question. Leave it in comments and I will try real hard to explain or answer. If I have done it how about telling me that also.
