Pros:very absorbent, tight fit, durable & ECONOMICAL!
Cons:can't use at night, leaks occasionally, possible staining
The Bottom Line: I've tried several diapers, and have been most pleased with Kushies Ultra! Certainly do your research, but try this diaper!
Kushies Ultra Diapers have saved us hundreds of diapers, and we're planning to use them with our second child as well! Here are the many benefits of using Kushies Ultra:
*TIGHT FIT.. we've used the same size diaper for 11 months and we've never had a bad problem with leaks. HINT: buy cloth liners rather than disposable paper ones; the liners create a tighter fit when your child is young!
*NO DIAPER RASH I had anticipated a host of problems with rashes, but experienced the opposite! These diapers hold a whole lot of pee and since you can tell when they're wet (a problem with disposables sometimes) your child is changed more often.
*NO PLASTIC WRAP - The Ultra Kushies have a vinyl covering around the flannel diaper.
*DURABILITY We were concerned that the vinyl would tear, especially around the stitching, but it hasn't been a problem! Be sure to put the dryer on a lower setting (to lower drying timer, put in a dry towel to absorb moisture).
*ECONOMICAL- Wow... this was the greatest benefit. The diapers paid for themselves in three months, and they're easily in good enough shape to use for our next child!
*SOAKING SOLUTION Kushies recommends soaking the diapers in vinegar water. This is also very cheap and easy!
Of course, no product is perfect. Here are some problems we've discovered:
*VELCRO CATCHING This is a mildly annoying problem where the velcro becomes tangled with other diapers in the dryer, resulting in a big complex clump of diapers when you take them out. Not a big deal to us, and it doesn't seem to damage the diapers.
*CAN'T USE AT NIGHT We find that if the diapers are going to leak, it's at night, so we use disposables at night.
*OCCASIONAL LEAKS These diapers seldom leak, but certainly more often than disposables. Once the baby is eating solids, it ceases to be a problem.
**IMPORTANT!! - Ensure that you rinse off all feces before putting the diaper in the pail; feces that sits on the outside vinyl for an extended period of time will stain the vinyl a pretty pink color.
