Pros: Good for Cats
Cons: Doesn't do what it's supposed to do.
Ever heard of the ultra high pitched sounds that only a dog can hear? Well that's pretty much what this UTP-100 will do. I can tell you what this device is SUPPOSED to do, and then I will tell you what it ACTUALLY does. Believe me, it's two totally different things.
What Do You Get?
You get a training video that will show you how to use the remote training device, needless to say, I don't believe what I saw on the video. I think that dog they used had more training than just training from this UTP-100. You of course also get the device itself which is smaller than your average TV remote. Simply put the batteries in, and press one of two buttons. You have a "P" for positive and an "N" for negative. Do dogs listen to this? Well.... Yes, & No would be the answer to that one. Don't expect miracles.
I was given this unique dog training item as a gift. I had high hopes and it just didn't do a thing. The positive makes my German Shepherd look at me funny, and the negative makes him bark at me...GO FIGURE!!!! That lasted all of a couple of times. NOW the reaction I get is ABSOLUTELY NOTHING.
How is the UTP-100 Used?
The way the UTP-100 is supposed to be used is that you press the "P" for a positive behavior. If they do something good, then praise them press the "P" button, and give a treat. Little by little you can reduce the treats, and the dog will associate that sound as "Good behavior" The "N" is used for modifying the bad behaviors. If your dog does something he/she isn't supposed to do, just press the "N" and it should make them stop what they are doing immediately. (not bloody likely)
You can't be more than 10-15 feet away or your dog won't hear it. If you ask me, you could be right next to my dog and he could care less. I actually laugh at this thing, it does NOTHING for my dog, except for get him excited so that he wants to play. When I recently got a new puppy (A cocker spaniel) I thought here was my chance to work with him with it. He looks at me like I have a real problem so you could say that I get the same effect. HE COULD CARE LESS. No matter what I do, he ignores it. BUT.... This poor electronic device has not gone to complete and total waste. IT WORKS FOR MY CAT!!!! Who would have thought?
You see my cat Donnie is a pretty slick dude. He just can't wait to get his paws outside, he wants to chew on grass, but because he's strictly an indoor cat, I can't allow him to go outside. He will actually jump up and push the sliding door at one side, and get it to slide just enough for him to get out but I use that "N" on the UTP-100 and WOW you should see Donnie go. That cat turns around and runs as far away from the door as he possibly can. Forget the Dog training video, forget about trying to use this thing for training your dog, but if you want to make your cat obey and get away from something. THIS IS THE PRODUCT FOR YOU! CATS WILL RUN, that's about all I can say. Donnie hates this thing with a passion, I don't think he cares whether I press the "P" or the "N" anymore, but when I first started using it for him he would take off only when pressing the "N" for negative behavior. I actually tested him one day and he was drawn in by the "P" (positive) sound, but still a little hesitant as to whether he wanted to come to close. Then just a slight tap on the "N" (negative) and he was out of the room like lightening.
I will say just one thing as a warning. DO NOT ATTEMPT TO TRY THIS ON YOURSELF. Even though you can not hear the "N" (negative) sound, PLEASE do not hold it up to your own ear to listen for it. If it's turned just the right way, you will have one major sharp sound in your ear, and there is a warning saying not to hold it or aim it toward your own ear or anyones for that matter. It's dangerous. So with that in mind, if you have a cat that you need to scare away from things, this might work, but other than that, I don't find any good use for this little device. I'm glad it wasn't ME who paid the money for this worthless contraption. I have to admit, the idea is a good one, but I only wished that it worked the way it says it will.
