When I had such great success with the Under Armour HeatGear Sport Bra I knew that I’d be investing in some of their other products and when I saw the HeatGear full length leggins / leggings [depending on what you call them], I knew that if they worked as well as the sport bra, I’d found the ultimate pair of pants for hard core work outs. I weight train in addition to cardio six days a week and that much action has taken a true toll on most of the athletic wear that I own. I used to purchase the $10.00 stretch pants and get about four months of wear out of them before they’d simply fall apart from being washed in hot water and all the stress and strain of my workouts. After that I decided to purchase the higher priced ones thinking that they would last longer, some did but eventually they too gave out on me at the most inappropriate times. The suggested retail price of $40.00 wasn’t an object for me, I wanted something that would allow me to stretch, deadlift, do cardio and isolated exercises like crunches without having to run into the bathroom to change clothes. Knowing that the HeatGear system pulls moisture away from my skin was a definite plus but I wasn’t completely sold on these until I slipped into them. My first impression … it felt like a second layer of skin. My second impression … there’s no way I’d ever buy another brand of work out pants. Yeah, they are that good.

Under Armour HeatGear Leggins

The first thing to know about these is that Urban Armour calls them “action tights” so you have to keep that in mind when ordering these online or you might not get the search results you want. Some people might hear the suggested retail price of $40.00 and think that it’s outrageous but trust me on this, once you slip into these you, the price won’t be a consideration. They have a compression factor to them but you do not feel like the life is being squeezed out of you when you are wearing them – and the best part – they fit like a glove so there are no loose spots around the rear or thigh, something that I personally find extremely annoying. The rubber elastic bands on the ankles help to keep the pants seated and movement free even under the most strenuous of activities; think I am joking – I’ve used these on the treadmill, while doing isolated exercises for my abs and 45 minute cardio session on the stationary bike and I’ve yet to have these ride up my leg or move out of place. There is a good bit of stretch to these, something that will offer you the ability to move in any direction without having to worry about the seams busting out or ripping. That was the major downfall of the cotton and spandex blend exercise pants – especially when doing lunges. I can’t remember the number of times that I “all of a sudden” felt rather drafty in the lower region only to find out a few minutes late that I ripped the seams – not just ripped them – but ripped them to a point where it was impossible to repair them.

Colors & Care

These only come in three colors – black, dark blue and carbon / dark gray. It would be nice to get a few pairs in white but to be completely honest, you might be showing off a little too much if you know what I mean … in case you don’t get my point … here’s the skinny. You can’t really wear anything under these because you’ll have wicked panty lines – if that doesn’t bother you then hey, by all means, indulge. You can pick up the lighter colors if you purchase from the winter line for Under Armour products … but it’s still summer here, no need for that type of a product .. yet – but it is nice to know that they offer specific items for various seasons. For me, wearing anything under these defeats the purpose – to pull moisture away from the body. When these get wet, let’s just say this – if you were wearing white, you’d be getting a lot of stares. I have these in black and carbon and love both of them. You can wear them with just about anything and they wash up nicely. I wash all my gym clothing in hot water regardless of color, it’s the only way to get rid of the smell and try to keep the discoloration to a minimum. Both pairs have been through the wash about five times and look just as good as the day I purchased them. I do suggest tossing them in the dryer for a few minutes to tumble then allowing them to air dry, this will keep the elastic in great shape and allow the material to retain its shape and eliminate the chance of shrinkage.

Sizes

These are available in sizes from extra small to extra extra large but you really have to check the sizing chart [a pop up is available] to make sure that you are ordering the correct one – when it comes to these if you have any doubts about sizing, try checking your local sport stores first to see if they have them stock so you can try them on for size. Personally I’d rather order a size larger and have a little more room to move than to order one smaller and feel like a stuffed sausage. These pants are tight enough that even if you order a size larger you are still going to get a great fit but your best bet is to try them on at a local store and make sure that you are trying on the correct style so if you order them online, you will get the same great fit. It isn’t just about a “small, medium or large” in regards to these fitting properly, you also have to take into consideration your height, what you will be doing in them and if one of the standard non-HeatGear pairs wouldn’t suit your needs better.

The Bottom Line

You can read more about this awesome line from Under Armour by visiting their main website at www.underarmour.com or go directly to the site just for women by visiting www.underarmour.com/ua2/ua_women. You’ll be able to check out the complete line, get sizing and color options, general information and even order a catalog. For me, these are the best deal around when it comes to exercise clothing and I do plan on ordering more from the line. I’d rather pay a little more for a product that I can depend on than one that is going to fall apart after a few months. If you are serious about working out and want clothing that is going to keep up with you, invest in this line and you won’t be disappointed.

As always, thanks for the read!
