Pros: Digital cordless so much better than analog
Cons: Message indicator only works with internal answering machine
The voice quality for both sending and receiving is just excellent. The volume can be turned up to compensate for noisy locations or for those with slight hearing loss.
The speaker phone is better than any other I have ever used. It is not tinny at all, and callers are easy to understand. Unlike most speaker phones including modern cell phones, I can hear the person I am talking to interrupt me if I am talking. Even though their voice may not be so clear that I can understand what they are saying as I am talking, at least I can realize that they are trying to talk, I can pause, and then hear what they are saying. This was a pleasant surprise as I am used to speaker phones not allowing me to hear anything at the other end while I am talking.
I bought the phone to use on my second line with a VOIP phone service after I canceled my AT&T conventional phone service. I decided to use the VOIP answering system instead of the Uniden answering machine. I was disappointed to find out that even with the Uniden answering machine turned off, the message waiting indicator does not work with the VOIP service. My Uniden phone system on my other line does not have an answering machine, and the message waiting lights do work on those phones. If I had known this in advance, I probably would not have bought this phone with its integrated answering machine.
The intercom functions works well for calling the handset from the base or vice versa. If you add more handsets to this system, any two handsets join a call. I do not know of any analog cordless base that can allow two handsets to be on the call simultaneously.
I like the fact that the ringer can be turned very low which is nice for a bedroom.
Due to the DECT standard, handsets from other manufacturers can be used with this phone although some of the advanced features may not work.
I later realized that more handsets would be useful, so I purchased more. In retrospect, I should have bought a system with more handsets to begin with.
I bought the system from the Uniden online store which seemed to have a nice selection of reasonably priced phones.
