Our office has a lot of white board surfaces to keep clean.  I’ve been using this Universal Office Dry Erase Board Spray Cleaner (# UNV-43661) with mixed results.


Description

The clear liquid in this 8-ounce white bottle has a pump nozzle at the top, covered with a see-through plastic cap.  This product is designed to clean dry erase marker pen, dirt, and dust from dry erase boards.  An added comment on the bottle is that it can be used with Universal Cleaning Wipes, which are sold separately.  The instructions on the back of the bottle state to use the Universal Cleaning Wipes with this product.

There are no ingredients listed on the bottle.  However, there is a warning to keep out of the reach of children and to avoid eye and excessive skin contact.  First aid instructions are to wash the skin immediately with soap and water. If the product enters the eyes, the instructions are to flush the eyes with running water for fifteen minutes.  This product is manufactured in the UK.


My Experiences

This is a simple product to use.  Remove the clear plastic cover, and press the pump so that a spray of liquid squirts from the nozzle.  Make sure the nozzle opening is facing the dry erase board.

The first thing I notice about this product is the smell.  I don’t find it attractive.  The odor has me wanting to hold my breath.

Despite the instructions stating to use a Universal Cleaning Wipe, I always use a regular white paper towel.  I squirt the white board liberally with the spray and wipe with the paper towel.  The towel picks up the marker color from the board and quickly looks dirty.  The spray does an okay job at cleaning the board … but not stellar.  It takes several repeat wipes with the paper towel to achieve a clean board.  I find that blue marker is the toughest to completely remove.  Even after repeat cleanings, I can still see a faint sheen of blue on the board from where the blue marker was used.

I’m a bit leery that this bottle lists no ingredient contents, yet states not to have excessive skin contact with the liquid.  Being the curious sort, I looked online for the product’s MSDS (Material Safety Data Sheet).  The information states that the product offers no significant hazard.  The ingredients listed on the MSDS sheet are: Trisodium Nitroltriacetate; N,N-Methylene Bis Morpholine; Dipropylene Glycol Monomethyl Ether.  For additional information, please contact the distributor or manufacturer.

Summary

I’m not convinced I would purchase this Universal Dry Erase Board Cleaner again.  The price was right, which is what attracted me.  However, I don’t like the smell.  This cleaner does an okay job, but I’ve used better products.
