Acne Free is my new favorite skin care product! Ever since I was in junior high school I have been trying to find a product that would take care of my skin. Our world is sad. I have grown up in a society that teaches me to be pencil thin and have a perfect complexion. I admit that this environment has caused me to be a perfectionist about myself. I have never had a bad acne problem, however, I have always been concerned about my skin and preventing those random nasty zits that deform your face and the numerous blackheads that make your nose look like it has dirt on it.
After trying products from Mary Kay to St. Ives I had finally decided to go with Pro Active despite the expensive price. This last spring my sister told me about Acne Free. She explained that it worked just as well as Pro Active for half the price. I decided to give it a try. I currently buy Acne Free at Walmart for only $18.99 compared to Pro Active's $39.99.
The Acne Free system is made up of three steps: Purifying cleanser, renewing toner, repair lotion.
Purifying Cleanser:
Ingredients:
Water, Sodium Coco Sulfate, Sorbitol, Glyceryl Stearate, PEG-100 Stearate, Oleamidopropyl Betaine, Lauramide DEA, Magnesium Aluminum Silicate, aloe Barbadenisis Leaf Extract, Saliz Alba (Willow) Bark Extract, Chamomilla Recutita (matricaria) Flower Extract, Panthenol, Triclosan, Melaleuca Alternifolia (Tea Tree) Leaf Oil, Disodium EDTA, Citric Acid.
I love the Purifying Cleanser. The consistency feels like a light lotion and is very soothing. It is designed to exfoliate the dead skin cells gently and to wash away any dirt or oil that can clog pores. I have noticed that the cleanser does not produce much of a soapy lather when I rub it around my face, however it does to a purely refreshing job of cleaning my face. One thing that I love about this cleanser is that you can use it anywhere on your body! "Massage onto face...May be used on Face, chest, or back."
Renewing Toner:
Ingredients:
Water, SD Alcohol 40-B, Glycerin, Hamamelis Virginiana (Witch hazel) Distillate, Panthenol, Chamomilla Recutita (Matricaria) Extract, aloe Barbadensis Leaf Extract, Gauiazulene, Lactic Acid, Disodium EDTA-Copper, Benzethonium Chloride.
I tend to have oily skin on my face so the toner is my favorite step because it dries out my face a little. It states on the bottle that it is a "skin balancing formula" and that is exactly what it does. It balances the oil you produce and the lack of moisturization that can occur in your face. If you already have dry skin I think that the toner won't dry you out too much because it is not terribly strong. As is the case with most three step acne treatments, the toner is the first to run out. My skin does do better when I have the toner, but I still benefit from just using the cleanser and the lotion.
Repair Lotion:
Ingredients:
Water, Octyldodecanol, Glyceryl Stearate PEG 100 Stearate, Allyl Methacrylates Crosspolymer, Behenyl alcohol, Steareth-21, Acrylates/Beheneht-25 Methacrylate Copolymer, Disodium EDTA, Methyparaben, Methylisothiazolinone, Triethanoliamine
The Repair Lotion is okay. The consistency is quite runny. The first time I used it I was quite shocked because the lotion in Pro Active is thick and creamy. The lotion gets the same job done just like Pro Active. The one thing that I do not like is grainy particles that appear in the lotion over time.
I find that the main ingredient Benzoyl Peroxide which is the active ingredient in the cleanser and the lotion are what makes Acne Free work. Nothing has gone wrong with this product within the months that I have used this product. It has cleared up my random zits and blackheads and has prevented others from forming.
Once I saw a huge zit appearing on my chin and within three days of using Acne Free, it was comlpetely gone.
