I've never had terrible acne as I've witnessed with many of my classmates. Sure, I'll get a pimple now and then, but nothing dramatic. My main problems are breaking out when I'm PMS-ing and blackheads. So when I saw this at BJ's (wholesale store) I thought it would be just as effective as ProActiv. Boy, was I wrong.
There's three steps just as in the Proactiv system. First step is a facial cleanser that smells a little odd, but I found that it lathered just fine - you just have to use a little more what than you normally would to lather. My face felt clean afterwards but extremely dry due to the high level of benzol peroxide in the cleanser.
Next step is a toner with a blue hue. The minute you open it, the spell of witch hazel and alcohol hit your nose. I applied it when a cotton pad and it slightly burned my face and, not shockingly, made my face even drier.
Last step is the Repairing Lotion. It says to apply it with a cotton ball or pad but I got the suggestion of using your hands instead from another review on this product on epinions since it does seem as if you're losing a bit of lotion by using cotton. Instead, I just use my hands which works fine. I did find it a bit gritty as other reviewers but I didn't find this to be a huge problem.
Now for the results. After the first two days of using it everything went fine (I used it twice a day, once in the morning and at night). By the third day, my cheeks were SOOO dry and tight it hurt to smile (and I don't have naturally dry skin if that's what you're thinking). I thought maybe because I didn't have severe acne I should cut down my usage to once a day before I went to bed. So I waited until the dryness went away and decided to try it again but only once a day. It worked fine for the first three days but by the fourth it went back to being as dry as the Sahara desert again. As for helping my acne, I wasn't able to use it long enough the see any major difference, but I noticed my face was getting redder and a little irritation along my cheeks and chin.
Overall, I made a big mistake in using this product, which I think is intended for people with more severe acne problems. Unfortunately, I bought the large bottles instead of the standard size sold in drugstores so I feel like I would be wasting it if I didn't use it so I guess I'll use it on my chest and back since I suffer from body breakouts (the bottle says it's alright to use on your chest and back). Hopefully, it won't dry out my skin too much on my body but we shall see.
If you have sensitive skin or mild acne, I advise you to rethink your skin regime instead of using this product. Try Aveeno products; I've switched over to the foaming face wash and clear complexion facial lotion and it works GREAT. Trust me, it'll give you the clearest, even looking and softest skin ever. Good luck!
