Bang For The Buck
Cons:Not for kids who aren't ready for loud, dramatic, violent action.
The Bottom Line: It's great for anyone who likes superb CG films for older kids, but I'd be careful taking a little kid to it, even if he/she is well-behaved in the theatre.
Up was the first movie we took our son to in a theatre. He was about four years old at the time, which is when most kids understand the concept of "quiet voice" in appropriate locations. Our son was THRILLED with all of the balloons and with Kevin, the big, colorful bird, but this movie was not intended for folks who are not too keen on sudden, loud, violent images and sounds.

There is no death in Up, although there are plenty of images of dogs falling from the sky for great distances toward the ground or sea below, or crashing on rocks. There are images of desparate animals, like Kevin, being netted. There is the violent thunder storm that the house and the two main characters are tossed into when the house floats into the sky... for us adults, it's engaging: for a little kid younger than, perhaps, six or seven, maybe not so much.
Overall, Up is a fantastic film. It is beautiful to watch. The story is heart-wrenching, but also uplifting (pardon the pun). For adults who love animated films, this is wonderful. For kids who still don't like loud noises and sudden, stressful action, I'd buy the movie and keep it for later.
