tchoate's Full Review: It Just Comes Natural by George Strait
George Strait is not finished yet and with the release of It Just Comes Natural it will be obvious to anyone who listens to it that at 54 years old this man is still making hits and still has what it takes to be the King of Country music.
Already It Just Comes Natural has given Strait his 53rd #1 hit with the first single release from this album Give It Away. This song has spent 15 weeks on the Billboard Country Charts and is still ranked #3.
The Songs
Give It Away - This was the promo single for this album and has already become the 53rd #1 hit single for Strait. This is a great song written by Bill Anderson, Buddy Cannon and Jamey Johnson. It starts out with George speaking about a woman leaving and how the man thought she would be back. George then begins singing about all the things that the wife said to Give Away because she wasnt coming back. This song has some great vocals and guitar playing, it is what I would consider a classic country song about love lost and trying to get it back.
She Told Me So - This song was written by Bobby Braddock. This song is a slow one but is typical George Strait. With great fiddle playing and steel guitar this is a wonderful country song.
Thats My Kind of Woman - Wirtten by Dean Dillon and Tammy Hyler. Dean Dillon seems to be a favorite writer of Strait as he has written or co-written many songs on Georges albums. This song isnt my favorite on the album, but it once again rings true to country music. It talks about a woman who wears boot and ropes and rides. A little slow tempo with the great sound of the Ace in the Hole band in the background.
Wrapped - This is your guy lost girl song on this album. The song written by Bruce Robison, once again showcases great fiddle playing and some great vocals.
It Just Comes Natural - This is the second single release from this album and is also the title track. The song tells how it just comes natural to love someone. Written by Marv Green and Jim Collins, this song could very well be the 54th #1 for the King of Country.
He Must Have Really Hurt You Bad - This song is not what I would consider your typical George Strait song. George does a great job with it, but when you listen to it you will know that it is not something that you would expect to hear on a George Strait cd. It doesnt have a lot of his band in the background, it is based more around the vocal than the band. A slow song, with great lyrics written by Tim Johnson.
A Heart Like Hers - This song is about how a man could break the heart of a woman like her. This song has great steel guitar in the background. George does a great job with the vocals. The song was written by Tony Martin and Mark Nester. Its a great listen just not one of my favorites.
Why Cant I Leave Her Alone - This song written by Trent Tomlinson, Danny Wells, Ashe Underwood and Mark Kerr, tells the story of a man who has lost at love due to drugs and alcohol. This is one of my favorite songs on the cd. The fiddle playing in this song is the best on the album. Great honky tonk song that would be great to dance to.
One Foot In Front of the Other - This song picks up the tempo of the album a little. This song has the same kind of sound that The Fireman another of Straits songs has. It is upbeat and you are really treated to the sound of the drums and guitar in this great little song written by Lee Roy Parnell and Cris Moore. Great little piano solo included in this song.
I Aint Her Cowboy Anymore - This is another song co-written by Dean Dillon, Scotty Emerick and Maria Cannon-Goodman. This is one of my favorites on the cd. It is a slow song, but talks about losing at love. Seems lately every time it rains it pours, I aint her cowboy anymore. It is a great song with wonderful lyrics and the strings in the background bring a little of a different sound to the song.
Texas Cookin - This song reminds me of something you may have heard from Bob Wills. A little bit of the blues with some foot stomping good guitar playing. The song is full of piano, fiddle and guitar playing with a little clapping in the background. Will make you want to sing along!
A Better Rain - This song written by David Cory Lee and Tony Lane is a very slow song. The lyrics are great, but it just doesnt make me want to hear it over and over again.
How Bout Them Cowgirls - This is a great song that I could listen to over and over again. It just has the lyrics and music that you could listen to again and again. Written by Casey Beathard and Edward Monroe Hill, it is a great George Strait song and he does it as only he can.
What Say - This song was written by Leslie Satcher and Bobby Carmichael is all about staying together no matter what and working on a relationship to hold onto it. The song is slow, but delivers a definite message with its great lyrics. When you listen to the song make sure that you pay attention to the words! Great song for George Strait and his wonderful band in the background is great.
Come On Joe - This song starts out really slow and when I first listened to it I thought it was going to be horrible. After the first few bars of the song the tempo picks up some and it turns into a really great song. This song written by Tony Romeo was a great way to end this album.
Final Thoughts
This album produced by Tony Brown and George Strait is a great album, full of great songs and a true country sound. These two have once again proven that they know how to make a record together. It is a must have for any fan of George Strait and also anyone who likes what many people now call traditional country music.
Take my advice, purchase it and enjoy!
