Cons: I can't taste the Butterfinger
I am a big fan of snacks. While I tend to prefer salty/savory snacks, there are a few sweet snacks that I absolutely adore. One of my favorite sweet snacks is a snack sized Butterfinger bar, and I think that I like it because of the salty/sweet taste of the peanut butter combined with the chocolate.
A few weeks ago, I found myself at WalMart. Now, the local Super Wal Mart is not particularly close to any of the other places I go to on a regular basis. As a result, if I want to go to WalMart, I have to go a couple of miles past my usual shopping center. I tend to prefer Target to WalMart, but I fully acknowledge that there are some snacks that seem to ONLY appear at WalMart and nowhere else in my local area.
As soon as I saw the bag of Utz Mini Pretzels covered with REAL Butterfinger Pieces, I knew I had to have it. I love everything Butterfinger, and I felt confident that I was going to love this snack as well.
The product comes in a 6 ounce bag. A serving consists of 5 pretzels, and there are about 6 servings in a bag. Each serving contains:
6 grams of fat
4 grams of saturated fat
220 mg of sodium
10 grams of sugar
2 grams of protein
This product contains artificial colors, and as far as allergens go, it contains peanuts, wheat, milk, and soy. According to the back of the bag, it is manufactured in a facility that also processes peanuts, tree nuts, and sesame seeds.
I do want to mention that I have seen a box of Halloween sized treat bags on sale at Target. I hadn’t noticed these before Halloween, but I picked up a few boxes on clearance after the holiday. This is the same product, but it comes in 24 snack sized bags instead of one larger bag. Each bag contains a small portion of the snack. With the clearance price, I ended up getting twice the snack for the same price, so I stocked up at Target. I like the automatic portion control. If I want more snack, I have to open up a second bag. This is usually enough motivation to be a stopping point for me.
As far as taste goes, this is an interesting snack. I’ve had chocolate covered pretzels, and I’ve had peanut butter filled pretzels. I enjoy the former, and I want to like the latter, but it usually ends up being a tad dry. When I eat an Utz Mini Pretzel covered with Butterfinger, I can taste both the chocolate and the peanut butter. These two flavors, which already taste great together, blend perfectly with the salty crunchy pretzel.
There’s one catch…. I don’t actually taste the Butterfinger. Visually, when I look at the pretzel, I see that it is dusted with “Butterfinger crumbs”. However, I don’t taste Butterfinger when I eat the pretzels.
What saves this product, in my opinion, is that the combination of chocolate/peanut butter/pretzel is remarkably delicious. It’s so good that I don’t even care that I can’t taste the Butterfinger.
I would recommend the Utz Mini Pretzels Covered With Real Butterfinger Candy Pieces (that’s quite the mouthful) to snack enthusiasts who like the combination of chocolate and peanut butter. The nutrition facts are less than stellar, so you are probably better off sticking to one serving of this snack at a time.
