RCarte2000's Full Review: Vtech V.Smile Tv Learning System
I purchased a VSmile for my daughter's 4th birthday. She loves to play games on the PC and she would always do her best to play on the Playstation or XBox but just couldn't grasp it. Once I saw a video game system for toddlers, I knew it was for her.
The system is sturdy and bright. The joystick is a perfect design for little hands that haven't quite grasped the concept of coordination. We all know those little game pad buttons for Playstation and others are just small and confusing at times. There are ports for 2 joysticks, so an additional one may be purchased for a price of $15-$20 (depending upon where you shop) so that two may play the games that allow two players.
Game Information
The games for the system are for many ages and involve many popular characters ranging from Spongebob Squarepants to Disney Princesses. These characters join the child in making learning so much fun! This is not your ordinary gaming system such as a Playstation would be. This system is all about learning and the games are specifically geared towards that. Each game is set up for a particular age group and within that age group there are categories of learning tools and steps. Games start from age range 3-5 years and advance to an 8-10 year old range. You are sure to find something beneficial for most children through this system.
A few titles that are available for the VSmile:
Bob the Builder
Spongebob Squarepants
Nemo
Toy Story 2
Spiderman
Winnie the Pooh
Little Red Riding Hood
Alphabet Park
The Wiggles
The Lion King
Care Bears
and many more!
What the Games Do
A prime example of the way the games are geared would be my daughter's Bob The Builder game. Aside from adorable graphics of the characters she knows and loves, she works with each of them on basic skills for her age group such as counting, alphabet recognition, shapes and sizes, hand-eye coordination activities, and problem solving skills. Obviously, with a two year span for these games, there are going to be some activities that your child has already mastered. The games will be good practice for those skills and used as stepping stones for newer skills.
My daughter, as I said, is 4 now. I got her the Bob the Builder game, the Lion King game, the Winnie the Pooh game, and of course one game comes with it. She plays all of these games endlessly. It's like she just can't get enough of them. Is she really learning anything? Yes, she certainly is learning. I'd recommend this product to anyone with a child fitting the age groups. Four seems to be the perfect age for this and I don't regret buying it one little bit.
This system is the perfect gift for any child who loves to play and learn. My child has ADHD and has trouble learning in the same manner as other children. Learning through games works well for her and the idea was recommended by her physician. Obviously, this may not work for every child, but it's always worth a try. If you have a child who wants desperately to play games with the big kids, you should look into this system. Give your child a boost of confidence with their very own gaming platform specially designed just for them!
