These are great. Good quality as long as you take care of it and it will save you plenty of money by keeping your wines drinkable for several days.
One of the major impediments to drinking wine is that once you open a bottle, you generally have to drink it that night. After that, the quality degrades and turns into vinegar. This can be a big problem, being that cheap wine is a sure path to a horrible headache, so opening a $15+ bottle of wine generally only happens when you have company.
Fortunately, this little item, which seems too good to be true and really falls in that "save food" skeptic category. Nonetheless, my brother has been using these and never really had anything bad to say. I was still skeptical, until I had the opportunity to take home a $30 bottle with 1/3 left after already being opened for 1 day and stopped up with the vacuvin.
I got home and the wine was still delicious. And this was even with a well used stopper! I was so impressed I've bought a bunch of these: 1 for myself and the rest as gifts. This is such a great item it should be shared with your friends.
Basically, it works by sticking one of the caps in the half finished bottle and place the vacuum and simply pull the handle until you hear a peep (whistle) that confirms that the vacuum is formed. After that, to open it, you simply push the nub at the top to release the vacuum and it comes right off. The price is great (amazon for 8 bucks) that if it ever dies, you won't feel cheated about just buying another one. you will have saved more money by not throwing away wine, and you will more than willingly shell out another 8 bucks. That being said, there's no reason that this item won't last you for several years. It will last even more if you take care of it.
