| Freak369's Full Review: Valentine Heart Pez Per Dozen |
Every year people wait until the last minute to get Valentine Day gifts; that ultimately means hitting some small drug store on the way home and trying to find something that isn't banged up or that's been handled by a hundred people. Then you see it, the Valentine display of Pez dispensers. Normally Pez are priced at .99 cents to $1.29 depending on where you are shopping but these are always $2.00 or more because stores know that there are people that will pay it because they are last minute shoppers. I avoid the middle man and buy them by the box; you will have to hit a candy wholesaler to get them by the box without getting raked over the coals but it is worth the footwork to track them down. There is no guarantee that you well get exactly four of each color dispenser so that is the chance that you take when you buy them by the box but it will save you money.
Pez Valentine Heart Dispenser
Each dispenser comes with two rolls of Pez candy; this gets inserted in the slide out chamber and 'shot' out of the top. Tip the heart backwards to have a single piece of candy pushed out of the top. Once you release the heart it automatically lines up the next piece until you run out. Just as I mentioned that there is no guarantee that you will get an even number of colors per box, there is no way to guarantee which flavors you will get in regards to the candy. Most of the seasonal ones now come with the assorted fruit rolls but some have individual flavors. The candy sleeves are wrapped tightly to protect them during shipping and to reduce breakage.
Each box contains twelve dispensers; the colors are pink, red and purple. The purple ones are the newest and seem to be the most popular on the individual displays. There are sayings stenciled on the front of the hearts; these vary from dispenser to dispenser and include "Be Mine", "Sweet", "I Love You" and "XOXO". The sayings vary so just because you grab five pink ones, that doesn't mean they will all have the same saying on them. The barrels all have the standard Pez design on them with the raised logo and grip area. They are made in the usual Pez fashion so you can flick away without worrying that the hearts will break or any of the internal pieces that advance the candy are going to snap.
While these are considered a seasonal item because of the Valentine theme, they are a nice little gift to give anyone any time of the year. I know more than a few guys that have used these to get out of the dog house with their significant others. They are also a nice thing to add to a bouquet of flowers [especially if you go the cheap route and pick them out of someone's garden] or some homemade chocolates. If you buy them by the box you can stash them somewhere so if you ever find yourself in trouble or lacking a small gift, you can hit the box and solve your problems. They are individually wrapped and are the same exact ones that are sold in stores except them come in a display box with a pop up top.
These are something that kids can play with but the pieces of candy are small so there is a chance that they could choke on them. The dispensers are well made and solid but they are made of plastic so there is always a chance that they could crack or splinter, especially if they are stepped on. If you've never used a Pez before, there is a small instruction sheet inside each pouch that shows you how to load the candy. Refills for the dispensers can be purchased almost everywhere but if you want specialty flavors like Peppermint or Cherry, you will have to order them from online sites that import Pez candies.
If you are buying these by the box you won't get the red heart with the white barrel, so far I have only seen that sold in the larger store packs. Likewise, the twelve count boxes don't have the USA and Flag Pez designs that are the shape of hearts but are sold in a different assortment. All the various Pez heart designs can be ordered from the website but there are times when they will be sold out of them or they will be out of stock. You can also order refill candy from the website but the shipping on it will kill you; check your local candy store to save money on shipping.
The Bottom Line
The Pez Valentine hearts are a great little gift for someone. Whether you hand one to your sweetie and plant a big kiss on their cheek or add it to a gift basket or bouquet, its a small way to say you care. Even if they never open it or gobble up the candy, it's still something that will serve as a reminder that someone thought enough to give the gift of Pez. On a side note, the image for this only shows the red and pink hearts, not the purple one. The twelve packs that are sold now come with the very cool and ultra groovy purple heart.
As always, thanks for the visit
