Pros: Convenient, fast, portable, quick set up, improves congestion, works fast
Cons: Cup gets reused 8 times, vapors irritated my eyes
This winter, I got a pretty bad sinus infection. I was miserable and congested, so I tried a variety of products to try to stay comfortable and to be able to go to work. I had seen advertisements for BreatheRight Vapor Shot!, so I wanted to give this product a try.
The BreatheRight website reads, Ideal for colds, allergies, sinusitis and hayfever. I needed some relief from the symptoms of my sinus infection, and picked up a box for $6.99. I had seen the commercials on TV, and was able to find a box at my local grocery store.
Each box comes with one Styrofoam cup, cup top, and 8 individually packaged tablets.
Basically, you use hot top water, and pour the water in the cup, then make sure the lid is on tight. You drop in a tablet, which effervesces. The lid is sort of contoured so that your nose fits right over the cup.
I dont put my nose too close to the cup, because at first, the smell and the effervescence is very strong. The vapors are menthol, and can be a little overwhelming. It is strongest at first, when the mixture is still effervescing, but the product continues to work as long as it is hot/steaming. Of course, it still has a scent to it after it has cooled down, but it is the hot moisture that works best.
The directions say to NOT microwave, and NOT to use boiling water.
The great part about this is that it is quick and easy. You use hot water or heat up some water, and youre ready. Ive even gotten up in the middle of the night to use this, so that I could get some better sleep. It is really portable, and the box shows a picture of someone using the Vapor Shot! at work. I havent used this at work, but this would come in handy for travel or other times I couldnt use medications or a big vaporizer.
There are a few things I dont like about the Vapor Shot!. There is only one Styrofoam cup that comes in the box, which you use eight times. Its nice that the cup is reusable, so that it is somewhat environmentally friendly, but it really isnt that durable. For the most part, I just rinse the cup and leave it out to dry, but it can get a little beat up after being used a few times. Also, I could see where the water line was, because the mixture had eaten away at the cup a little bit.
The only other thing I dont like about the Vapor Shot! is that the vapors burn my eyes a bit when I put my nose over the cup. The vapors travel right into my eyes, and the menthol is so strong that it irritates my eyes.
Ingredients: Sorbitol, Citric Acid, Sodium Bicarbonate, Sodium Carbonate, Polyethylene Glycol, Eucalyptus Oil, Sodium Benzoate, Menthol, Magnesium Oxide, Yellow 5 Lake, Blue 1 Lake
I am glad I bought the BreatheRight Vapor Shot!. I still used it in conjunction with lots of other products, but it was great to have on hand for some immediate relief. I have not used the whole box, and Im glad to have this on hand for future use. After using the Vapor Shot!, my sinuses were very soothed, and I could breathe much better.
