Pros: Age spots grow paler and less noticeable.
Cons: No SPF. Minimal moisturizing qualities.
I have done pretty well for my age as far as age spots go, especially being the sun-worshipper that I am. On trips to the beach or days of pool fun, I do wear a sun block but I am guilty of not really caring the rest of the time. Spring here in Texas this year has been particularly sunny and driving with my windows down has been a refreshing change. Who knew my left arm and hand would turn a couple of shades darker than the right? Duh! The effects of the sun have also produced a couple of inevitable, darker freckle type age spots on my hand and this is only May? I am fussy about my hands and feet and refuse to give in to natures ravages. So I went on the hunt for a product to help me out here.
I have been quite pleased with a couple of Vaseline products lately, one being Vaseline Intensive Care Healthy Hand & Nail Lotion which I use every day. Vaseline Intensive Care Renewal Age Redefining Hand Lotion stands out on the shelf because of its color and when I spied diminishes appearance of age spots, it stood out even more. It seemed to be beckoning me, so I picked it up at the relatively cheap price of $3.99 from my local Walgreens Pharmacy.

I must start paying more attention to the products I buy. I dont understand the fact that the active ingredient in this product is actually used in UV protectants although Vaseline does not suggest any UV protectant is included. Oh, well, lets see how it does anyway. The two spots I have are small and on the back of my hand. One is a little darker than the other.
This product comes out of the tube in a thin stream and does not take but a dime-size amount to take care of both hands. It is extremely greasy when you first apply it. In fact it feels like regular petroleum jelly. However, after a few moments, the skin just seems to gobble it up. What was disappointing is that about a half hour after application, the hands seem to feel just as dry as they were before. I dont think much of the moisturizing qualities in this product. I did try using more of the product the second time but it didnt make a difference.
The big BUT is that after four weeks of applying this lotion about twice a day, it HAS faded the age spots to a certain extent. They are definitely still there but they are much paler and less noticeable. Great results in that department.
I am not impressed with this product as a moisturizer but it doesnt claim to be one either. It does immediately replenish lost moisture as it claims. It just doesnt last very long. The point is, I bought this Vaseline Intensive Care Renewal Age Redefining Hand Lotion with age spots in mind and it has been successful in diminishing them over time. I cant say that it has had a hand in reducing fine lines and wrinkles because I think its counterpart is more effective in achieving that.
Overall, I was satisfied that this product was successful in what it was meant to do for me. I would recommend it for diminishing age spots but you will definitely have to use a separate moisturizer and sun block. I found that using it at night after showering would be more effective, when there are no other products mingling with it.
