My husband received the Vector Sport Spot One Million Power Spotlight spotlight as a gift this past Christmas. It wasn’t something he had asked for, but he’s very glad he got it, as am I. We hadn’t previously owned a spotlight.

For those as unfamiliar with spotlights as I was, this is basically a big, very strong flashlight. The light thrown out by this thing is so strong that you can feel the warmth of it on your face when pointed at you from 10 feet away. Of course, you do that with my eyes closed, because looking into this thing close up is blinding!

Illumination
The manufacturer claims that the high-intensity beam carries for one mile. Now, I’ve never tried to verify that. But, my husband and I have no problem believing that the light would be visible to someone from a mile off. I can tell you that the light does an outstanding job of illuminating items at least 600 feet away. We usually just use it to look across our backyard, which is only 150 feet from our back porch. My husband has also pointed it across the empty neighboring cornfield at howling coyotes, and they quiet down immediately!

If you point it at the ground at your feet, it’ll illuminate the ground around you for up to 20 feet. Much safer for walking outside after dark than with a flashlight!


Lightbulb and Batteries
This has a halogen lightbulb.

The spotlight uses rechargeable batteries. It’s a 6 volt sealed lead acid battery. Included with the spotlight is a DC adapter so you can plug it into the wall, or a cigarette lighter adapter.

The spotlight provides continuous light for up to 20 minutes. It is not good to completely discharge the battery, you may not be able to recharge it. So it’s best to turn it off if you’re not actively using it, and stop using it completely if the light starts to dim.

You can not use the spotlight while it's charging. It should recharge completely within several hours, less time if you discharged it less.


Design
The handle is a rubber grip with finger indentations. The finger indentations were a perfect fit for my husband’s hand, but I just grip the handle and ignore the indentations, because my hand isn’t big enough to comfortably rest in them.

The light button is a comfortable trigger button at the top of the grip; just depress with your index finger. There is a slide on the side to lock the switch in place, either on or off.

One potential disadvantage is the large size. It is rather bulky. The flashlight head is approximately 5 inches in diameter and 5 inches long; the handle is 4 inches long. However, it’s pretty lightweight and comfortable to hold.


Summary
If you need a spotlight or would like to be able to shine a light across a distance further than a flashlight can handle, or would like something that illuminates your path better than a flashlight, then this is a good buy. And the price of $12.99 is excellent. The 20-minute light limit may not be satisfactory to some. Some other types of spotlights can be used while plugged in. This isn't a replacement for a standard flashlight, but a helpful additional tool.
