I just got this book yesterday, when my brother nabbed it at his school's book swap. Brand-new and incredibly colorful, it appealed immediately to a die-hard Veggie fan like myself. In this volume, the focus is not on teaching life lessons such as forgiveness, obedience, and thankfulness, as it is in the videos. Rather, this four-in-one anthology teaches basic facts: numbers, colors, shapes and the alphabet.
The first story is How Many Veggies? It begins with Bob the Tomato floating out in the bay in his little boat. Of course, it seems a shame to waste such a lovely boat on just one person, so Larry hops aboard as the first mate. Before they can haul off, more veggies come, one by one, and offer their unique assistance for making this boat ride perfect. But how many veggies can a little boat like this hold?
Junior's Colors runs through all of the different colors which Junior regularly encounters, and where he encounters them. There's not much of a plot, but there's plenty of Veggie fun as Junior uses his crayons to color his world. One note: you'll notice a lot of green, but red is only covered by one familiar subject.
Pa Grape's Shapes features Pa wishing to travel but stuck with a tireless truck. Luckily, in the midst of his hillbilly wonderland, he has the Robo 2000 New Tire Machine. With this friendly blue-screened computer, Pa tries out shape after shape for his tires as the New Tire Machine dutifully cranks them out. Of course, he eventually finds the right shape...but before he can take off he's got to figure out how to get rid of the dozens of tires strewn across his lawn!
Bob & Larry's ABC's leaves plenty of room for creativity as the two friends go through the alphabet, sharing Veggie-related uses for each letter. You'll get the chance to see little-known Veggies such Grandma Grape, a potato in his underwear, and a zucchini getting an x-ray. You'll even get a glimpse of the enigmatic Aunt Ruth!
Each of these four stories rhymes, with perfect rhythm to boot. Each page is bright and colorful, and the dialogue and illustrations both include the quirky humor that Veggie Tales is known for. This book is four lessons in one, and it's so much fun that your kids won't even realize they're learning. The Veggies have done it again!
