| snipsnapsappy's Full Review: Velodyne VLF-810 Subwoofer Speaker |
After trying to find a sub in the $200 to $400 range, I found this baby. I bought it without ever seeing or hearing it. I know Velodyne has a great reputation for subs, and the specs sound good, so I went ahead and purchased the sub. Well, I did not even see it in the specs, but I was surprised to find a 10" downward firing woofer along with the 8" forward firing one. Also, the box has a very attractive high gloss finish on the top and front. I had no idea this was going to be such a good looking unit.
Sound: This unit sounds amazing to me. However, before this, I had never had a good quality sub, just a cheap ($200) Yamaha sub. Now I am truly realizing what I was missing. I live in an apartment, so I can not have the sub go too low, but I still like to push it at times, and man does this thing go low. The explosion at the beginning of Lord of the Rings goes on for much longer with the new sub than it ever did with my old one. Another new demo dvd for Bass is Tears of the Sun, man does this movie love to use a sub. There was some great, tight bass. And I must say that it sounded really damn good with this sub.
Although there are probably better subs above $500, I think this is got to be one of the best available for only $300.
