If you want good, zesty food go to Versailles. The chicken with garlic sauces is insanely good and HUGE. You get practically a half chicken, rice, black beans, and friend bananas (or plantains). And it's something like six or seven bucks. The chicken is roasted to a crispy goodness on the outside and great juicy meat on the inside. I usually pour the black beans over my rice and start tearing through the chicken. If you're not stuffed after this meal, then you must be a cow with 4 stomachs or something.
Another good dish is the pork in garlic sauce and rice. Basically, its the same as above but with pork instead. Equally as satisfying and great when you don't feel like ripping up a chicken.
The shakes really aren't that good and are quite expensive relative to the rest of the meal. The salad is also pretty weak considering what you get (a small plate of lettuce and slices of cucumber and tomato for a couple of bucks). I guess I just don't see the value in the side dishes when they cost about half of the main course but give you about 1/10 the amount of food.
The decor is what I would call "basic with a dash of color." It's not really a well designed place (decor-wise and space-wise), but then again people go here to get a good meal at a good price not to bask in the design aura.
I would also like to caution against the "combo" dish. It's basically a combination of the chicken and pork dish. On the whole, it's the same amount of food as if you were to take a half portion of the chicken dish and combine it with half of a regular portion of the pork plate but it costs 3 of so dollars more...Not a good deal any more. If you want both, go with a friend, and one of you order the chicken and another order the pork. Also, there's a beef dish in tomato sauce. I think it was called "Carne Asejo" or something like that. I didn't enjoy this dish at all. It was quite bland and basically amounted to a beef tomato stew over rice. Not good compared to the super garlic/lemon chicken or pork you can have.
All in all, stick to their signature stuff and you'll be alright. Bring a big appetite and a few bucks and chow down.
