Technicalities
Vicks Chloraseptic Sore Throat Spray comes in two different flavors that I'm aware of. You can choose from red (cherry) or green(original, tangy mint) and neither of them taste too bad (they won't bring back those memories of horrible childhood cough syrups that sent shivers up your spine). You can combine the spray with the lozenges for a more lasting effect. Although the spray provides the most instant relief, it wears off quickly when you have a really sore throat.
My Uses
This was one of the few "acceptable" tasting medicines in my house when I was younger. I actually didn't really mind taking it and I use it today at the first onset of throat pain. I'd stand in front of my parent, stick out my tongue, and immediately feel the tingly effect and numbness settle in my mouth. We also used it when my sister and I got braces and had occasional mouth irritations - it worked really well and left nothing slimy on my fingers or gross in my mouth. Although I didn't like getting sore throats (I've always gotten minor ones pretty often; when I get ones that last a while they leave me speechless with a dry, sore, crackly pain in my throat), the cure for the pain wasn't so bad.
Four sprays provide me with enough instant relief that I can fall asleep and rest. If I'm not feeling well in my head or have a cold also, I combine it with tylenol cold and flu or day/nyquil also; however, I never forget the spray as it's meant for the throat. It won't make you drowsy and it isn't painful to apply (imagine/remember swallowing a small pill last time you had a sore throat... didn't feel so little did it?) as it just settles and coats your throat instantly.
Conclusion: Get the Relief
When you first spray your throat 2-4 times (depending on age and severity of condition), you feel a cool, numbing effect come over you and soon you forget about the pain. You can go back to playing with your children or working within a few minutes. Application is easy, nothing to pour in the dark when your fumbling for medicine with your eyes half closed, and nothing to swallow out of a little cup that needs to be cleaned, just a few sprays after you stick out your tongue and your good to go until next application.
