| jlhin's Full Review: Vicks Cough Drops Cherry 20 Each |
On our recent vacation we all wound up with a very nasty bug that created lots of coughing and congestion. I am the type of person who cannot stand to be sick. Even worse, I can't stand to cough and for my nose to be completely stuffy. It drives me batty! If I can't breathe or lay down without hacking I can't sleep. While we were in Panama City I sent my husband down to the local convenience store and asked him to pick up some Halls. Unfortunately they didn't have any so he picked up a package of Vicks Cough Drops, Cherry instead.
~*~Cost & Location~*~
As I mentioned, my husband picked up our box of Vicks Cough Drops, Cherry at a local convenience store. The package contained 20 drops and he shelled out nearly $2.00 for the small package. Fortunately these are relatively cheap everywhere else, typically $0.99 or less at grocery stores, drug stores and discount stores.
~*~Just The Facts Folks~*~
Vicks Cough Drops, Cherry is your standard cough drop, containing Menthol. This ingredient is meant to help suppress the cough and soothe sore throats. It can also work wonders for clearing stuffy nasal passages.
According to Vicks their drops will "provide fast and effective relief" with "effective medicine to suppress your impulse to cough as it dissolves into a soothing syrup to relieve your sore throat."
Vicks Cough Drops, Cherry are not individually wrapped. Instead they are all contained in one wax paper sleeve. They have a triangular shape to them with the Vicks symbol in the center.
Vicks Cough Drops, Cherry are to be given to children and adults 5 years of age and older. Simply dissolve two drops and repeat every hour if necessary. For children under 5, please consult a doctor.
Ingredients:
Active Ingredients: per drop: Menthol (1.7mg)
Inactive Ingredients: Ascorbic Acid, Blue 1, Citric Acid, Corn Syrup, Eucalyptus Oil, Flavor, Red 40, Sucrose.
~*~My Experience~*~
I have always used Vicks products in the past and had great success with them. Unfortunately, Vicks Cough Drops, Cherry just didn't work very well for me. I know, I know, how can a cough drop not work? Well, these didn't do squat for me.
As I mentioned earlier in my review I use cough drops for not only suppressing my cough, but, for clearing my nasal passages. Normally, any drop containing Menthol can do the trick easily. However, for some strange reason, Vicks Cough Drops, Cherry didn't help with either problem. They didn't help suppress my cough and they definitely didn't clear my nasal passages. I'm not sure if they just don't contain enough Menthol to do the trick or what the problem is. I tried several times, during the day, and at bed time, and the drops just never worked well for me. They didn't even help to soothe my sore throat, which definitely could have used some major soothing.
The plus side to these drops is that they taste great. They definitely have a better flavor than my favorite cough drop. Perhaps Vicks concentrated too much on making them taste good and not enough on making them work. The cherry flavor is fantastic, it's just too bad I couldn't have enjoyed the flavor while they did their job.
I experienced no allergic reactions when using this product.
~*~Overall~*~
I cannot recommend Vicks Cough Drops, Cherry. While they taste wonderful, they just did not help suppress my cough, soothe my sore throat or clear my nasal passages. I'll definitely be sure to keep my old favorite on hand at all times!
