| loves2run's Full Review: Vicks DayQuil Liquid |
Recently, I started experiencing symptoms similar to those that my husband had had just a week or so earlier. Turns out I was coming down with the flu. I lead a very active life and I do not have time to be sick. I know taking over-the-counter medication will not make me get well any faster, only time and rest will do that; however, certain medications can temporarily relieve some symptoms so that you can rest more easily, which I feel will speed the recovery process.
If you will recall, my husband likes to sleep till he is feeling better. Let’s face it, this is not an option most moms will choose. We want to be alert in case our children need us. My children are older, 10 and 13, but I still do not want to take a medication that will “knock” me out. I want to rest mind you, but I want a medication that will relieve my symptoms but not make me so drowsy that I cannot function if they need my attention. Homework questions do not stop just because mom feels horrid.
My husband’s choice of flu medication is NyQuil®, so when I asked him to pick up some “non-drowsy” medication for me, he was so pleased to find DayQuil® a “non-drowsy”, alcohol and antihistamine free version of NyQuil®. DayQuil® is available in either a liquid or pill (liquicaps or softgels) form. Being the ever thoughtful man that he is, my husband bought both the liquid and liquicaps.
Instead of writing a review on both the liquid and liquicaps since they have a lot of the same warnings and ingredients, I will review the liquid form. I will also add any pertinent information about the liquicaps within this review.
VICKS® DAYQUIL®
I am sure most people have at one time in their life seen the commercial for Vicks ® NyQuil®, the “the nighttime, sniffling, sneezing, coughing, aching, stuffy head, fever so you can rest and have a good morning medicine.” Vicks® also makes a non-drowsy formula similar to NyQuil® which they call DayQuil®. It is the “daytime, non-drowsy, congested-stuffy head, sore throat, coughing, aching, fever so you can get through the day medicine.” So what does that really mean? This is a multi-symptom medication to bring relief to those suffering from a cold or the flu. DayQuil® is alcohol and antihistamine free which makes it safe for children six years and older.

PERSONAL EXPERIENCE
I found this to be an effective product in temporarily relieving most of my flu symptoms. Both forms relieved my headache and body aches along with reducing my temperature. Neither made my fever go away completely. The liquid form relieved my sore throat much quicker than the softgels. It is a thick liquid so it coated my throat whereas the softgels actually scratched my throat as they went down. The softgels are quite large and tough to swallow when you have a sore throat. Once my sore throat went away, I preferred the softgels. The taste of the liquid is grisly. I shudder even now as I think about it.
BOTTOM LINE
I would recommend Vicks® DayQuil® to those suffering from symptoms of the flu or a cold and who are otherwise healthy. This medication is not for everyone, please read the directions and warnings carefully. Always seek the advice of a doctor or health care professional if you have any questions.
