I am one of those unfortunate people that have sinus problems all year long. I suffer from headaches, sore throat, and stuffed up nose all year. The weather doesn’t make a difference either. Hot, cold, rain or shine I continue to have the same sinus problems.
During the day my sinus problems don’t stop me from doing the things I want to and need to do. At night it is a different story. When I lay down to sleep my nose gets stuffed up and I can’t breathe. I have tried propping up my head, but that didn’t help. I couldn’t get comfortable either. I sleep with a fan, but that only helps if I sleep facing the fan.
I have tried many over the counter medicines. Very few have helped much. I have found what works best for me are NightQuil and DayQuil. I use both, but only at bedtime.
During the day I prefer to go without any medicines.
NightQuil’s active ingredients are Doxylamine Succinate 12.5mg, Dextromethorphan Hydrobromide 30mg, Acetaminophen 1000mg, Pseudoephedrine Hydrochloride 60mg, and is 10% alcohol.
DayQuil’s active ingredients are Pseudoephedrine Hydrochloride 30mg, Acetaminophen 250mg, and Dextromethorphan Hydrobromide 10mg. DayQuil is alcohol free.
On Friday nights and Saturday nights I use NightQuil. Just one adult dose (2 tablespoons) and I am off the sleep. Fast, fast, fast! During the weekday nights I use DayQuil it doesn’t work quite as fast, but within about a half-hour I am off to sleep. You may be wondering why I use DayQuil during the week if the NightQuil works faster. Well, I get up for work at 4:30 a.m. and I don’t like the disoriented and groggy feeling that NightQuil gives me. On the weekends I sleep in, so I don’t wake up with those yucky feelings.
NightQuil’s directions are adult dose (12 years and older) 2 tablespoons. Repeat every 6 hours. Do not take more than 4 doses a day.
DayQuil’s directions are under 6 years ask a doctor. 6yrs-11yrs 1 tablespoon. 12yrs and older 2 tablespoons. Repeat every 4 hours. Do not take more than 4 doses a day.
Also prolonged use is not recommended unless directed by a doctor. I use the DayQuil almost every night, but I am not recommending that others do the same. I will say though, I breathe much better when I take either of these products before bed.
