Pros: Helps curve my symptons so I can get some sleep so I can get better.
Cons: Contains alcohol and sodium, read warning label before using.
I work a lot. In my field when you are in the middle of a project you work the hours that the project demands of you, and when you get sick, you had better get well quick, or you could set everything behind. There has been one thing that I have counted on for years to help me ward off illness, and get better faster. That one thing is Vicks NyQuil.
It would be hard to believe that anyone in this day and age has never seen a commercial for NyQuil, but basically what NyQuil is, is a cold relief medicine. It doesnt really cure you of anything but what it does is help to mask some of your symptoms so that you are able to get some rest. The more you rest, and sleep the sooner you will get better.
Vicks NyQuil has Acetaminophen for your aches and fever. Dextromethorphan for cough suppressing, and doxylamine for sneezing, and runny nose. Vicks NiQuil also contains 10% alcohol, which I am pretty sure is what help knock you out and get you to sleep. Each tablespoon of NyQuil also contains 17 mg of sodium so you need to keep that in mind as well if you have problems with sodium.
There is a big warning on the bottle that says if you drink more than three glasses of alcohol a day you should consult your physician before taking anything with Acetaminophen as it can cause liver damage.
Vicks NyQuil comes in comes in a 6 fluid ounce bottle. It is all sealed up nice and tight with a safety covering, that covers the top of the bottle and the little measuring cup that sits on top of it. The measuring cup is for your convenience, so you dont have to get a spoon or try and measure it with something else. Adult should take 2 tablespoons every 6 hours. You should not exceed more than 4 doses per 24 hours. You may be wondering how 6 hours is going to work well when you need 8 hours of sleep, but I can tell you from my experience that once I am knocked out from NyQuil I usually stay out until it is time to get up.
Here is a list of all the things that NyQuil can help feel better:
Cough due to minor throat and bronchial irritation
Minor aches and pains
Runny nose and sneezing
NyQuil should be stored at room temperature.
Here is a full ingredient list, this list is taken directly from the bottle:
NyQuil contains four primary active ingredients: Acetaminophen (500 mg per 15 ml dose) to relieve pain and fever, Dextromethorphan HBr (15 mg per 15 ml dose) to suppress cough, Doxylamine Succinate (6.25 mg per 15 ml dose) to act as an antihistamine, and Pseudoephedrine HCI (30 mg per 15 ml dose) to act as a nasal decongestant.
Inactive ingredients in NyQuil include alcohol, citric acid, D&C yellow no. 10, FD&C green no. 3, FD&C yellow no. 6, flavor, high fructose corn syrup, polyethylene glycol, propylene glycol, purified water, saccharin sodium, and sodium citrate.
You will need to talk to your doctor if you have glaucoma before using this. You should also check with your doctor if you have chronic breathing problems or persistent cough, chronic bronchitis or emphysema, or if you have trouble urinating due to an enlarged prostate. Also if you are taking medications for depression, psychiatric or emotional condition, or have Parkinsons you should not use Vicks NyQuil. Please read the warning label carefully and consult your physician if you have any doubts or concerns whatsoever.
For me NyQuil helps me get through those tough nights when I need to get to sleep and I am just generally feeling lousy, it helps my nose stay clear enough that I can breath better, it helps my achy parts and helps me to relax. When ever I feel a cold coming on I take NyQuil that very night, I have actually kept colds at bay a couple of times just by calming down and getting some good rest. Except for a couple of times when I was really, really sick, I always wake up feeling a lot better after taking some NyQuil. I think it is probably because my work is so stressful that my body is just screaming out for rest and NyQuil provides me with that.
Dont take NyQuil during the day, or before you operate machinery, or drive or anything like that. This medicine is to help you relax, not to help you feel better so you can do stuff. You should only take this right before you go to bed, and you are home and close by your bed. Dont forget this contains 10% alcohol. There is a Vicks NyQuil for day time, please dont take the night time formula at all unless you are about to go to bed.
When I get sick the first thing I always turn to is Vicks NyQuil. I know it is going to help me sleep and I know if I sleep I am going to get better faster. I cant say enough good about it. It has really helped me through some tough times. It works wonderfully for helping you get the sleep you need when you are sick. I highly recommend Vicks NyQuil.
