Nyquil has been around forever, it seems. When you have cold and flu symptoms that are not bad enough to see a doctor, but are just bad enough that they are keeping you awake at night, this is the medicine for you. It has a proven record of taking care of what ails you, and helping you get the rest you need as well.
Nyquil contains both an antihistamine and a decongestant. These two medicines work to take care of the cold symptoms that you are fighting. This is good for runny nose, congestion, sneezing, and cough. Nyquil is very good for coughing and sore throat, as the syrup leaves a coating on your throat to help sooth it. It also works well on headaches and body aches. This medicine can literally take care of any symptoms you may have.
If you are having trouble sleeping, Nyquil can definitely help with that. It takes around 30 minutes to start working. Once you start feeling loopy, you might as well go on to bed. You will be asleep before you know it. After taking this, you will definitely sleep well. It will allow your body to get the rest it needs to fight off your cold.
One thing that you need to remember is that Nyquil can be addictive. If you take this medication for too long, you will have problems getting off of it. After taking this syrup for a couple of weeks straight, my cold was better and I stopped taking it. I had the worst insomnia of my life! No matter what I did, I could not sleep at all. My doctor recommended that I begin taking Nyquil again, and taper off my use over the next seven days. I went from taking a full dose, to 3/4 of a dose, all the way down to a very small amount. This allowed my body to get weaned off of the medicine, and finally get some sleep naturally. It was no fun, and now I am very careful about taking this medicine.
Nyquil is a great medicine to take when you have a cold. It will make you feel better, and help you rest. But you need to realize that you need to watch how much you take.
