Pros: lasting relief, sleep, relaxation, coats your throat/inside chest
Cons: the taste, the smell
The Bottom Line: Great alternative to swallowing a pill. Liquids are better most of the time in my opinion anyway. Works like a charm.

Technicalities: Uses and other Information
First off: A 2 TBSP dose may be taken every six hours by an adult and is used to relieve aches, pains, headaches, sore throats, fevers, runny noses and sneezing, couching, nasal congestion/sinus irritation, sleeplessness...and most other annoying symptoms accompanying the cold/flu.
Nyquil, like other medicines, aren't for everyone. It causes drowsiness (try dayquil for non-drowsy formula). It isn't recommended for children. There are possibilities of drug interactions (MAOIs, etc) and other reasons this medicine shouldn't be taken without the advice of a doctor (heart disease, pregnancy, etc). READ THE LABEL for information you think might apply to you.
Next, referring to my title, this medicine tastes bad, like most medicines. There's no way around it. You can get the original green recipe or the red, cherry one (I prefer cherry), but both taste and smell bad (unless of course your senses have taken a vacation due to the recent storm brewing in your body).
How Nyquil will help (in other words, why you should pinch your nose and throw the medicine to the back of your throat and follow it with a glass of water):
-lasting relief of all symptoms listed above,
-it'll make you sleep, you'll wake up refreshed and energized (if you need to get up by a certain time take it about six to eight hours before hand),
-the ability to breathe again and not feel like you will die when your head hits the pillow,
-Bonus: the smell will most likely clear your nasal passage instantly!
I can't sleep, but I can't stay awake or I'll die!
How many times have you felt like this? You have to get up in five hours, you have a meeting you can't miss a work or the biggest test of the semester at college and you've been staring at the moonlight reflecting off your television screen that you just recently turned off for 4 hours.
Your body has been taken over; there's a war going on between the white blood cells and the mean, green, flu/cold infested cells and it's in the running to take over the title of the Hundred Years' War. (FYI: Not medically correct)
You don't like pills, or you can't take them, or you just want the instant relief provided only by a liquid when you can feel it coating your throat and chest as it slides down your hatch. So, as you have nothing to lose and a lot to gain, give nyquil a try.
My Reoccurring Story
My nose is clogged, I can't breathe. My head hurts, I can't think and I can't move. Even if my head would let me move, those aches all over my shoulders, back, and legs wouldn't let me. I can't swallow, my mouth is so dry.
I've relied on Nyquil many a nights to relieve my sickness symptoms and it's always worked better than I expected. I keep expecting it to not work as well the next time I take it, but I still fall asleep within a few minutes and always wake up feeling good (even if I do feel sick an hour or two later). I'm confident it will keep working just as well as it has for the past few years.
One Step Closer to Ending the Misery
Once your down trying to just go without sleep, spending an entire night by lying down only to sit up every 30 seconds because you can't breath and your nose is clogged, swallowing pills that you can't feel the instant calming effect with and that might scrape against your throat, and just altogether trying to avoid admitting that you are sick and succumbing to the gross, but helpful, medicine, why not get up from that television (you're not really interested in the show anyway, doesn't a dream or even complete calmness sound better?), swallow some nyquil, relax a few minutes, and let the liquid take over. That's it's job. That's why people spend hours and years perfecting it. That's why so many people have bought it.
You'll be able to sleep like a baby after you take it and you won't wake up due to little symptoms. 1) You won't have any until after you wake up and 2) Even if someone wakes you up before the medicine would normally get you up, you will only be half awake (Your body will still be resting).
When you wake up naturally, you'll feel better. Probably still relieved of all your symptoms and you'll actually have some energy. This is a nice feeling to wake up to, especially if you expected to have a bad day the night before. Even though you'll need another dose (take it right away), its power is great and lasting!
You have nothing to lose and although you might only gain the best night's sleep of your life (really, try it), rest, and relief from all your aches and sniffling and coughing, it'll most likely be worth it.
Remember: The taste only lasts a few seconds, the effects last many hours.
